Veterinary Surgeon in Manchester
Are you a dedicated Veterinary Surgeon eager to work with a practice committed to making affordable, high-quality care accessible for pets in need? I am looking for a passionate and skilled vet who thrives in a busy environment, enjoys learning, and is motivated to make a real difference to the pet-owning community.
Join our talented team of clinicians who provide comprehensive care, including complex soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, supported by top-notch imaging and theatre facilities with digital radiography, ultrasound, and CT. With a varied caseload and opportunities for internal and external referrals, you'll have plenty of room to expand your skills, whether it’s in technical procedures or emergency and critical care.
The Role:
- Competitive Salary: £37,000 - £70,000 (Depending on experience)
- Flexible Schedule: 4-day work week with one weekend per month; other flexible shifts available
- Leave: 6 weeks of holiday per year

Educational Qualifications
- Veterinary Degree: You must complete a degree in veterinary medicine or veterinary science from an accredited university. In the UK, these degrees are typically awarded as Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed), Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc), or Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S).
- Accredited Universities: Make sure your degree is from a university accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) or an approved equivalent if studied abroad.
Professional Registration
- Membership with the RCVS: To practice as a vet in the UK, you must register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). The RCVS is the regulatory body for veterinary surgeons, and registration is required to legally practice.
- New Graduate Professional Development: Many new graduates enter the RCVS’s Professional Development Phase (PDP), which supports skill development for newly qualified vets.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Clinical Skills: Proficiency in diagnostics, surgery, animal handling, and emergency care.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills are vital for interacting with clients and working effectively within a veterinary team.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Quick, effective problem-solving abilities for diagnosing and treating a wide range of animal health issues.
Practical Experience
- Clinical Placements: During your studies, you'll need to complete clinical placements and practical experience in veterinary hospitals, clinics, or similar settings.
- Work Experience: Prior to and during your degree, gaining experience with animals (e.g., in farms, zoos, or veterinary clinics) is often expected and beneficial.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Ongoing Education: The RCVS requires all practicing veterinary surgeons to complete a minimum number of CPD hours each year to stay up-to-date with advancements in veterinary medicine.
Right to Work in the UK
- If you are a non-UK citizen, ensure you have the correct work visa or immigration status to practice as a vet in the UK.
