Vacancy: Clinical Nurse Manager - Permanent
The Pet Emergency Hospital is Ireland’s longest established provider of emergency pet care, serving over 100 practices in the Leinster region. Working out of the University College Dublin Veterinary Teaching Hospital, you will be joining an established team passionate about Emergency and Critical Care. Having recently undergone refurbishment and equipment investment, you will have everything you need to provide the very best care to all your patients.
Your Role as Clinical Nurse Manager
The Clinical Nurse Manager is the leader of a large team of Registered Nurses in a well-established clinic. Reporting to the Clinical Director, you will help attract, retain, coach and manage a team of permanent and locum nurses to provide a consistently excellent level of emergency small animal care in collaboration with other clinical and general staff. Whilst on clinical shifts, you will maintain a high standard of patient care while being passionate about developing and coaching your team. This role is a flexible and hybrid role –management time can be completed from home complemented by clinical shifts in the hospital.
Key duties include but may not be limited to:
- Attract and retain approved complement of permanent and locum nurses in cooperation with the Clinical Director
- Coach and manage nurses performance to ensure consistently high level of emergency small animal care
- Plan and manage nurses rota/holidays/sick leave
- Lead by example and demonstrate excellence in clinical and behavioural standards in clinical management, client care, teamwork and collaboration, planning and organisation and continuous improvement
- Manage or facilitate shadow shifts for new staff
- Manage or facilitate mentoring and coaching of new graduates and new starters
- Organise CPD for nursing and ACA staff
- Support Clinical Director with clinical guidelines and clinical operations
- Contribute positively and effectively to the PEH Operations Management Team to ensure smooth running of the hospital
- Maintain strong relationships with the University College Dublin Veterinary Teaching Hospital team through regular communications and alignment of standards.
What you need to have:
- Ability to register as a veterinary nurse with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (required)
- A minimum of 5 years nursing experience in small animal care including experience in managing and coaching veterinary nurses (required)
- Certificate in Emergency and Critical care (desirable)
- A passion for excellence with the ability to create and sustain a work environment of consistently high standards in small animal care
- Leadership and management skills
- Communication skills
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
- An ability to multi-task and efficiently plan and organise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
