Job Details
Veterinary Surgeon
We are looking for a fourth veterinary surgeon who is a dynamic, enthusiastic pet and people person, with a passion for ensuring that pets receive quality, affordable healthcare with a Fear Free centred approach. We are looking for someone who wants to be part of a 3-year-old, purpose-built clinic, delivering the care that pets would choose as part of a rapidly growing group of independent, family-owned practices. You will be working alongside an experienced Clinic Director with CertAVP (ZooMed), two other experienced vets and a team of 5 RVN’s, a VCA and 3 front of house Care Co-ordinators.
Experience of 2 to 3 years minimum is preferred, and it helps if you have a cracking sense of humour and would enjoy CPD trips overseas to Nice/Monaco and Florida.
- 4 days per week 08.30am to 7pm.
- Days have a mix of consulting and theatre slots, with daily administration time factored in. Our consults are 15 minutes.
- 1:4 Saturday morning 08.30 to 1pm (increases as clinic and vet team continue to grow)
- No out-of-hours
- 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays (Good Friday worked but day in lieu given)
- Private Medical Insurance including Employee Assistance Programme access
- £1000 standard CPD allowance with scope to study toward certificates
- Fear Free training and accreditation as standard
- Day off for birthday
- Two days off to work for a local charity of your choice
- Workplace pension scheme
- 2 free Total Wellness Plans your own pets – 25% discount off subsequent plans and all other treatments. Our Wellness Plan is the best value plan out there, with unlimited veterinary consultations, annual health check including blood and urine tests, plus generous discounts on neutering and dentistry.
- RCVS and VDS fees paid
- Relocation package available
- Quarterly ‘fun budget’ for the team to socialise outside of work
- Summer and Christmas group social events
- Ad hoc trips to Nice & Monaco for CPD, plus a chance for team members to win a trip to the North American Vet Congress in Orlando
- Salary £50,000 to £65,000 dependent on experience
Harrison Family Vets
Harrison Family Vets is a growing group of independently owned practices, with an aim to provide care that pets themselves would choose. We have 3 generations of the Harrison Family working within our business and are run by people who still have a passion for veterinary practice with years of clinical and managerial experience under our belts. We have modern clinics designed to be pet and client centric and have taken the time to consider details which make a real difference to our pets, our clients, and our teams.
We truly believe in our purpose in providing quality, affordable veterinary care, delivered by team members who care. We want to do what is best for pets, not our pockets. Our principles of Quality, Integrity, Passion and Growth ensure that we are continually reminded of our goal to be the employer of choice, and the veterinary care provider of choice to our clients. Above all that, we are just people, and we like to think that we know people as well as we do pets.
We know that we can’t succeed in our goal without attracting the best people out there. We offer a great ethos, benefits package and salary, plus always try to add in as much fun along the way as we can. To date, this has meant swimming with Manatees in Florida’s Crystal River, visits to Disney’s magic Kingdom, sunset dinners on the French Riviera, summer BBQs with cocktail makers and silent discos’, fairground rides and dodgy dancing at Xmas extravaganzas. Next stop Vegas for another slightly more exciting location for CPD.
To help succeed in our goal to make our clinics as pet centric as possible, all our team members are accredited, or working toward becoming ‘Fear Free’ accredited professionals. Fear Free is a recognised educational programme widely used in the USA used to train those who care for pets to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in our patients. Our clinics are filled with team members who truly want what is best for the pets, in the most accessible and affordable way, with no compromise in quality or care, and we are proud to say that our Reading and Kingswinford clinics are the only outside of North America to have practice Fear Free accreditation.
We have designed our reception spaces to be modern, spacious, and welcoming for both clients and pets, with individual waiting pods to provide privacy, and reduce stress which can come from pets being able to see each other in traditional waiting rooms. Each pod is fitted with a digital screen filled with interesting pet facts, and this design has meant that we have removed archaic reception desks, and our clinics really do feel different.
In a nutshell, our vision is to be the best 1st opinion veterinary clinic we can be, with the best people on board, delivering quality and affordable care to our clients and their pets. (Whilst having as much fun along the way as possible)
