Practice Overview

By providing an exceptional level of service by every member of the team, from the cheerfully welcoming and superbly efficient receptionists to the genuinely caring, skillful and thoughtful nurses to the expert skill, wide breadth of knowledge and brilliant client handling of the Vets.

To encompass this and foster it by maintaining a cheerful and effective team where every member is respected for their own ability at whatever level.

Appreciating that a high standard of premises as well as ongoing CPD for staff at all levels is an essential part of maintaining and constantly improving the level attained.

In short, each team member is expected to exceed the expectations of our most demanding client. Do this by treating every client in all ways as if they were your best friend, this may sound like a cliché but if you apply this to each client interaction you will achieve the standards we aspire to.

There are 12 fully trained VN’s and 8 nurse care assistants.

Total staff including Practice Manager Sheila Duffy (my wife) Assistant Practice Manager Kim Bray (Our Daughter!) Reception Manager (Claire) Head Nurse and Practice Coordinator (Lynn) and Receptionists.

It is entirely small animal, and the practice was started by me in 1976.

There are 7 branches and one Main Centre:

The Main Centre is in Barnsley, and this is where all the operating is done.

The branches are consulting only. All have a Vet consulting room and a Nurse Consulting room. A receptionist is present all day—trained to handle animals.

The branches are in the area around Barnsley and to the north of Sheffield. None of the branches are more than 15-20 minutes’ drive away from the main centre—and are geographically arranged like the spokes of a wheel.

The Main centre is very comprehensively equipped, EG Ultrasound, Direct Digital Radiography, ECG, Video Endoscopy, Pulse Oximetry, a good range of Orthopaedic equipment, Hydrotherapy Etc. Etc.

Although very well equipped, we do not have a purpose-built building and thus the practice is on several floors.

We have recently expanded our Main Centre to 5 Op theatres—-with 2 further operating areas.) Pre-op) Plus 5 consulting rooms. We now have 6 kennel rooms. (2 cat wards, 2 dog wards and 2 isolation wards.) We now have Hydrotherapy, and we also have an associate Physio.

The whole practice is air conditioned including branches, great for client and pet comfort. Even greater for staff comfort. No more getting sweated up in a muggy consulting room or op theatre.

All Operating is at our Main centre in Barnsley Approximately 20 - 35 surgical procedures are completed per day, we perform a very wide range of procedures, and these can of course vary from cat castrate to Aural ablation to Fracture repair.

Our highly skilled surgeons will make every effort to support less experienced surgeons and get them up to a high standard depending on the kind of surgery they prefer.

The practice has RX works as the computer software and the whole practice is permanently linked by broadband.
