Our Independent small animal and equine veterinary hospital in Essex are looking for a small animal only vet to join their large, experienced team.
- £40,000 - £70,000 salary DOE
- Role split between hospital and one of the practices two branches
- Focus on staff well being with mental & physical well being of their staff being paramount
- A skilled and experienced staff support you and the large team of vets and 3 new graduate interns.
- Veterinary team has a range of experience from 4 - 45 years including 3 certificate holders
- 4 day per week, 8.30am-8pm two days per week and 8.30am-5.30pm two days per week, as set out in the weekly rota.

The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated small animal veterinary surgeon to join an independent small animal hospital. A capable and competent general practitioner, you will largely be based at the hospital practice with some work within one of the two branches.
Our full-time position is as follows:
4 days per week, The working hours would be 8.30am-8pm two days per week and 8.30am-5.30pm two days per week, as set out in the weekly rota. ‘On Call’ back-up for inpatients and dealing with emergencies that are presented before 8pm, once per fortnight, 1 in 7 Saturday mornings 8.30am-1pm 1 in 7 duty weekends consisting of Friday evening consults, Saturday morning consults, dealing with emergencies between 8am and 5pm Saturday and Sunday and responsibility for inpatients throughout the weekend. Any emergencies outside of these hours will be dealt with by Vets Now Bank holidays on a rota basis, up to two per year, taking the same working pattern as Sundays. Full time hours but part time would be considered for the right candidate There would be work at our main hospital and one of our two branches, on a consistent rota.
You would form part of a team of 10 assistant vets and 3 new graduate interns. The assistants are a mixture of full and part-time and range in experience from 4 – 45 years, and include three certificate holders in Cardiology, ECC and SA Surgery. The interns work 1 week SA, 1 week Eq, 1 week OOH so there is one intern present in the SA dept at any one time. All of our vets are firstly general practitioners and so do a mixture of consults, diagnostics, surgery, internal medicine and inpatient management for both routine and non-routine cases. We do however, encourage areas of interest and the more experience members of the team will assist with things like more advanced surgeries when needed. There is a strong nursing team including a mix of RVN, SVN and ANAs.
We see a wide range of cases from a wide background. We have an onsite lab, 3 video endoscopes, including a bronchoscope, dedicated dental radiography, ultrasound, digital x-ray, hydrotherapy, therapeutic laser, surgical laser. We do most of our own orthopaedic surgeries including TPLOS, we are embarking on laparoscopic surgery.

We are looking for a capable general practitioner who wants the opportunity to use or develop their own areas of expertise. Applicants should be confident and competent in surgeries and medicine and excel in communication. An ability to nurture our interns would be a bonus!
Applicants should be motivated and a passionate team player. A personable and friendly attitude, and a strong client focus is a must. Acquisitions of further qualifications is supported and encouraged. Candidate applications with a specialist qualification are encouraged.
