Position: Widden Valley Veterinary Services is seeking an experienced resident Equine Veterinarian to join our team of passionate staff on a full-time basis. The position would suit applicants with at least 4-5 years’ experience in equine reproduction and would be based at Baramul Stud. The position would include predominantly reproductive work, as well as medicine work on foals, yearlings and older horses.

Location: Baramul Stud is one of the leading broodmares farms, housing between 250 and 300 broodmares and progeny and is located in the tranquil and picturesque Widden Valley, approximately 45 minutes from Denman in the NSW Hunter Valley, the heart of the Australian thoroughbred breeding industry.

Selection Criteria:

Suitable candidates should have:

A Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent qualification, as well as a current Veterinary Board Registration or eligibility to be fully registered in New South Wales, Australia; The capacity to be on call 24/7, especially during the breeding season; Strong organisational and communication skills, both written and verbal; Be capable of working independently or in a team setting and have a calm disposition; Previous experience at a Veterinary Practice or Thoroughbred stud farm is preferred.

The role will involve:

Day-to-day care of all horses on farm, including diagnostic work, treatments, minor surgeries etc; Vet reports for insurance purposes and management; Communication with Equine Hospitals for serious injuries; Palpation work on mares in the breeding season; Assist in difficult foaling, if required; Conformation assessment of foals; Future capacity to perform transphyseal bridging, periosteal strip surgeries on foals, radiographs of sales yearlings and scoping for sales, with all equipment provided. The
