The Role

Would you like to work in the same village where Charles Darwin conducted some of his observations and where Florence Nightingale rowed across the mere?

Here at Pool Farm Vets, we are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys equine work alongside a busy small animal practice.

The role can be flexible for the right candidate but ideally someone willing to work between 20 and 40 hours per week. The role would also suit a part time Equine Vet looking to build their own client base. Weekends and weeknights are shared equally normally a 1 in 4 rota. Weekend on call consists of Saturday morning small animal surgery (until 12) and then equine emergency work (we only had 12 OOH calls last year).

We only provide emergency cover for horses as Vets Now cover our small animal emergencies.

The salary for the role is up to £65,000 depending on experience.

About Us

The practice has been family run since 2004! We have a lovely, friendly, close-knit team 6 Veterinary Surgeons, 4 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 3 Student Veterinary Nurses, 1 Veterinary Care Assistant and 3 Receptionists. We have 3 certificate holders in the practice and so clinical work is performed to a high standard. We actively encourage CPD to continue this high standard.

We often enjoy ‘pub Friday’ which in summer re-locates to the cricket club so we can all enjoy the early evening sun. We help to run a pet show (with an external judge!) at Betley show each August and we have a heavy involvement in the show each year.

Pool Farm Vets are based in a very rural but bustling village called Betley which is best described as “chocolate box” on the Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire border. The village has brilliant train links being only 10 minutes from Crewe station which means less than 2 hours to London and 3 hours 30 to Edinburgh. The nearby town of Nantwich is best known for its annual cheese show and jazz festival. The practice has been family run since 2004! Pool Farm has a very loyal and pleasant client base with many clients having been with us for nearly 20 years.

We have all the equipment you would need and expect and probably more besides along with mobile equipment for the horses. Accommodation is available if needed.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for a confident and friendly individual who can practice medicine to a high standard. You should have good communication skills. Experience would be ideal but not essential for our role.
