We seek an additional RVN to assist with overnight care of our hospitalised patients, working with us in our friendly and positive team. The successful candidate/s will provide overnight nursing care for patients who are waiting for or have undergone orthopaedic surgery.

This role is part time working Thursday Nights 7pm - 8am (with 1 hour break) additional shifts may be required to cover holiday and sickness as and when required.

You will be responsible for in-patient care at night following a formal hand-over from daytime staff and you will update daytime staff on patient progress at the end of your shift. You will communicate with and be supported by the on-call veterinary surgeon regarding in-patients, as necessary. This is an opportunity to work in a specialist referral veterinary environment in which we aim to provide the highest levels of clinical care.

Previous experience of nursing surgical patients in small animal practice is required and applicants should ideally have experience of working in a referral clinic. Good written and spoken English is essential and you must have the right to work in UK (UK or EU citizenship, or valid UK working VISA).

Responsibilities and duties for both roles
  • Nursing pre-operative and postoperative patients
  • Assessment and recording of patient progress following surgery
  • Assessment of and management of pain and administration of postoperative analgesia
  • Communication with clients regarding patient well-being
  • Preparing kennels for next day
  • Weekly/Monthly cleaning tasks
  • Laundry
  • Sterilising and packing of surgical instruments
  • Routine cleaning of surgical theatres, as required
  • Updating kennel sheets
  • Stocking up, as required
