Job Details

We are looking for an experienced Vet to join our team at Hartlepool Vets4Pets. This is an excellent opportunity to take on more responsibility as a Senior Veterinary Surgeon in a role offering flexibility and progression.
  • Open, friendly, supportive team
  • Part time, flexible hours
  • Salary up to £65k (pro rata DOE)
  • Excellent opportunity to progress into senior role
  • Support with relocation

"I've genuinely loved being part of the Hartlepool Vets4Pets team. From my initial visit to the practice, I was struck by how welcoming and friendly the team were, to the point I was prepared to commute an hour each way to join them! It's a very supportive and busy practice with a huge variety of cases - and a JVP who loves to mentor and teach the younger vets. I'm very sad to be leaving them but we are relocating abroad due to my husband's job." - Kate, vet

We are a welcoming, friendly and open team led by JVP and veterinary surgeon Kathryn, who has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery. She is supported by 2 full-time and 1 part-time vets, an experienced nursing team of 5 RVNS including practice manager Leighanne, 1 SVN, 2 VCAs and an experienced reception team. Some of our nurses are currently working towards certificates in surgery and anaesthesia.

As a team we pride ourselves the high standard of care we provide in practice and also in providing an environment where our team can develop, feel confident and get enjoyment from their work. We hold weekly ‘huddles' which gives all team members the chance to contribute to our protocols and make sure we are working in the best way possible for everyone. We also enjoy spending time outside of work together and recently took a trip up to Edinburgh together to enjoy the Christmas markets. For the rest of the year, we have a socials board so we can keep regular get togethers planned and never miss celebrating a team members birthday.

Due to the interests of our vet and nursing team we have a significant surgical caseload and in addition to variety you would expect in general practice, we also see a number of small furries. Our days are a mix of consults and surgery, and we are happy to arrange the diary so you can get exposure and continuity of the cases or surgeries you want. Our diary includes appointments set aside for ‘on the day' and ‘emergency' appointments and is arranged with plenty of catchup time so that you have the chance to write up notes, call clients and work up cases to a high standard. Working overtime is rare but if you do this will be paid or you will be given time back in lieu.

We are looking for an experienced vet to support our JVP Kathryn in leading our clinical team and who is happy to take charge when our JVP Kathryn is not at work. This will involve coaching and mentoring our less experienced vets so while there is no sole charge, is an excellent opportunity to take on more responsibility. Due to Kathryn's interest in surgery, we do see a high surgical caseload however we can support any desire to progress in the clinical discipline you are interested in.

We are looking for a part-time colleague and we are also happy to discuss a flexible rota to fit around your commitments. We are looking for someone who is confident with all routine consults and surgeries, and if you specialise in a particular area we would be keen for you to explore this with the team.

We are open 6 days a week, 8:30am - 7pm Monday- Friday and 9am-12pm on a Saturday and are closed Sundays. Our weekend rota is 1 in 3 and no OOHs will be required. We welcome overseas vets and offer fully funded visa sponsorship and help with relocation both in finding somewhere to live and offering a relocation package. We also hold twice yearly pay reviews.

Our stand-alone practice is based in Hartlepool, a seaside town in the North East of England. We are lucky to have excellent transport links and enjoy the amenities that come with living in a large town while being really close to some beautiful countryside, in particular, the North Yorkshire Moors.

As you would expect from the market leader in small animal veterinary care, we offer and excellent benefits package including:
  • Excellent career and development opportunities.
  • Salary up to £65k (commensurate with experience)
  • Relocation package
  • 5.6 weeks holiday increasing to 6.6 after 2 years of service, plus your birthday off
  • Generous CPD and funding of certificates for the right candidate
  • Paid memberships (RCVS, BVA, VDS)
  • Exclusive company discounts and rewards, including 20% off The Vet Group

If you want to join a really fantastic team who are passionate about providing the best care possible to our patients this is an opportunity not to be missed! For an informal chat about the role or to find out more please contact our practice manager Leigh-Anne: Leighanne.degnan@vets4pets.com
