The Role and You:

This is a wonderful position for a newly graduated Veterinary Surgeon role, with RCVS registration.

This practice is a close-knit team, very supportive of each other, and they very much are looking for someone who wants to enjoy working as part of that close team, taking the role (but not yourself!) seriously. Attitude and work ethic is what they consider of the highest importance and the rest will follow.

The Practice is fully equipped to limit the need for outside referral offering in-house Orthopaedics, fully comprehensive IDEXX in-house lab including Sedivue, in-house PCR Testing, DR X-ray, Dental DR X-ray, Microscopy, Tonometry and much more!

The team:

Self-confessed, and without wanting to mislead any applications, this practice says  …

‘We are not an ordinary, normal practice, we are unique, and proudly so. Our mission statement is Blending Modern Medicine with Old Fashioned Care, and we do our very best to uphold that day to day. We are strong believers in protecting down time and take continuous active steps to ensure our staff have a great work/life balance.

Our teams at each branch have a sense of humour which has to be experienced to be fully appreciated, and we encourage this atmosphere 100%!’

They have a scope of experience from their 4 Vet team (recent graduate to Clinical Director), as well as a 4 vet sister practice for support, and a close relationship with the nearby referral hospitals.
Plenty of support, and opportunities to share cases and bounce ideas around the team.

Their most recently recruited Graduate Vets, said this of their experiences so far…

Lucy – “I first came to sore paws for an EMS placement in February 2022. It is the perfect place to get hands on practical experience, I was encouraged to do as much as I wanted and given lots of opportunities and support throughout my placement, seeing lots of interesting cases and carrying out routine surgeries.

The team are so friendly and welcoming and really want you to feel as comfortable as possible. I enjoyed it so much I started working here in summer 2022. I’ve felt fully supported throughout my first year here but also have been pushed to learn/try as much as possible. It really is the ideal environment to learn and ask questions with no judgement and build clinical knowledge and practical skills as a new grad.”

Matthew – “Being a new grad here has been wonderful! I have always had full support from the whole team, in relation to knowledge and clinical experience, logistical help and emotional support. They have become my second family! This familial nature merges both support and encouragement in a healthy manner which is a balance that is very reassuring as a new graduate; getting you stuck into a variety of cases (both surgical and medical from day one) and never dwelling on any inevitable mistakes that are made, instead using such events as learning opportunities.”

Benefits and Perks:

  • RCVS and VDS fees paid Pension scheme Free professional mental health support Cycle to work scheme Unlimited CPD budget Certificates fully funded, supported and encouraged Up to 5 weeks holiday Birthday off Staff loyalty bonuses Excellent support staff with designated receptionists so nurses are purely clinically focused Comprehensive facilities and equipment Flexible working pattern Excellent starting salary, £35,000 per annum Staff discount £3500 Sign on bonus
