Job Details

Salary: £40K - £45K per annum plus benefits (CPD and relevant memberships).

Location: Highbridge, Somerset.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue (SWWR) exists to relieve the suffering of British wildlife, to encourage respect and tolerance for wildlife and to further its conservation. SWWR strives to do this by: providing a public rescue, rehabilitation and release service for injured, sick and orphaned wildlife; through a learning and outreach programme, public education and access to a unique wildlife experience; by delivering conservation projects and by disseminating data and delivering professional training to improve knowledge and raise standards of wildlife care across the UK.

The Charity is on-call 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and operates across Somerset, Bristol and the surrounding areas.  We have 45 employees working alongside a strong and committed volunteer workforce. Employees and volunteer response drivers are equipped and trained to rescue all types of British mammals and birds. After appropriate veterinary care, these animals are rehabilitated on site and eventually released back to the wild. Our new purpose-built Wildlife Treatment Centre provides an excellent working environment, alongside our wildlife rehabilitation facilities.

We are looking to recruit a Veterinary Surgeon to be Head of Veterinary and Wildlife Care Services with responsibility for the overall management and delivery of Secret World Wildlife Rescue’s Veterinary and Wildlife Care Services involving the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of British wild animals. The postholder will lead, manage, and motivate an effective and successful integrated team, as well as contributing to our education programs, working closely with our Volunteer co-ordinator, fundraising and education teams, and being a member of the Senior Management Team.

The essential personal requirements of a suitable candidate include:

  • RCVS registerable veterinary degree
  • Strong evidence of managing employees
  • 2-3 years minimum experience in domestic animal practice
  • Wildlife medicine and rehabilitation experience

  • Existing relationships with wildlife, veterinary and conservation organisations
