Senior Vet Surgeon required at Gatehouse Vets, Allerton
The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Vet Surgeon to join our team at Gatehouse Vets, Allerton. If you are an experienced Senior vet or looking for the next step in your career we are interested in hearing from you. As a Senior vet you will work with the practice leadership team to help drive the practice forward, implementing new initiatives, as well as mentoring and coaching other members of the team. Other responsibilities include maintaining excellent clinical care of our patients, the ability to make strong and well-communicated clinical decisions and working to and maintaining high clinical standards.
Salary and Rota
Historically this has been a full-time position but with the support and expertise of the wider team we are able to offer a more flexible approach with working patterns and hours.

Our typical full-time hours are 40 hours per week over four days with a share of the weekend rota. This is currently just 1 in 6 Saturdays with time back in lieu.
Salary for the role is up to £70,000 depending on experience + Relocation allowance of up to £5000 if required. This would be subject to pro-rata adjustment if a part time role is more suitable.
About Us
We are a busy, well-established, tier 3 training practice with hospital status. Located in the West of Yorkshire we are a short drive away from the Yorkshire Dales and Bronte Country. We are closely located to good travel networks and links and also pride ourselves on our excellent teamwork and inpatient care.
We have 3 sites across West Yorkshire all well equipped with Ultrasound, endoscope, x-ray equipment, dental suites, etc offering 24-hour care for patients. We are a gold standard ISFM certified cat-friendly practice with a silver certificate for rabbits and have be rated outstanding in several practice standards scheme awards.
Our caseload is very varied and our team has lots of different interests. With some team members undergoing further training by certificates and some having those that have achieved certification status, Gatehouse offers a fantastic level of support on a wider group level and allows us to grow and develop a higher quality first opinion pet care, whilst providing internal career progression opportunities.
About the Team and Culture
Currently, we have 5 Veterinary Surgeons, 11 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 4 Student Veterinary Nurses, 2 Veterinary Care Assistants, and 14 Receptionists. We hold regular team building events including our annual treasure hunt, weekends away, and opportunities to attend various congresses.
Applicant Requirements
The successful candidate must have the following skills/attributes:
- Previous experience within a small animal practice
- Drive to work towards clinical excellence within first opinion practice
- Confidence in making strong clinical recommendations and being able to coach less experienced team members in making these
- Confident surgical experience is a requirement. Dependent on candidate interests, certificates/further qualifications fully supported
- Leadership qualities to enable successful support of less experienced team members
- Confidence in supporting less experienced team members with surgical cases
- Be able to work as part of a senior team within a clinic, to help provide a safe and supportive working environment
- Provide clinical support to the practice manager, to help maintain legislation such as Practice Standards and Health and Safety
- The desire to provide a high standard of veterinary medicine, to the pets under our care
- To be passionate in wanting to progress your clinical knowledge and skill development, which in turn contributes to the growth of the practice and the clinical team
