Experienced Equine Resident Veterinarian - Thoroughbred Stud Farm

We have an outstanding opportunity for an Equine Veterinarian with predominantly stud based clinical experience to join our resident veterinary team.

The ideal candidate will have well established skills in the area of reproduction and foal medicine. An interest in yearling sales work (both preparation & on site sales services) and sport medicine would be considered favourably. The position is predominantly for a seasonal role during the coming breeding season with on-going seasonal work, part time, casual or full time work encouraged for the right candidate.

Gundy Veterinary Services provides resident based veterinary care for Arrowfield Stud, Scone in the Upper Hunter Valley of New South Wales, Australia. Arrowfield Stud is one of Australia’s leading thoroughbred breeding operations, with 10 stallions and an outstanding resident broodmare band of ~400 mares. The stud is one of the largest consignors of yearlings in the country with large drafts at most major sales.  The state of the art Arrowfield Training Centre, adjacent to the stud is home to Paul Messara Racing where a string of Thoroughbreds are broken and trained, including pre-training for some of Sydney and Melbourne’s leading trainers. Information regarding the stud can be found at arrowfield.com.au

The position involves sole responsibility for the reproductive medicine of approximately half of the broodmare band and veterinary care of their offspring year round. Veterinary care of yearlings during sales preparation, as well as assisting with sports medicine at the racing stables, provides for a varied and year-round work load. The racing stable is primarily managed by one of our resident veterinarians who also assists with routine management across the farm. The onsite veterinary practice is well equipped with laboratory facilities, digital radiology, ultrasonography, and video-endoscopy including gastroscopy.  Onsite medical management of mid-level ICU is catered for. An experienced veterinary technician forms an integral part of our small team.

Gundy Veterinary Clinic works closely with two of Australia’s major equine referral practices for second opinion, intensive care and surgical referral services, including mentoring.

The Hunter Valley offers a very pleasant country lifestyle with several options for junior and senior school, a good range of sporting and recreational facilities. We are 3 hours from Sydney and 2 hours to the coastal city of Newcastle. Interested applicants may choose to look at the following links to establish an understanding of Scone and the surrounds:

A generous remuneration package commensurate with experience is on offer. We are keen to ensure flexibility in employment conditions to ensure work life balance and to create a healthy, sustainable working environment. A car, phone and accommodation are routinely offered with the package.

Interested veterinarians should email their applications including a letter of intent, curriculum vitae and the names of two referees to Dr Wendy Perriam via the APPLY button. All applications will be in confidence.
