The Role

Here at The Oak Veterinary Group, we are looking for a part-time small animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our team. Your main work would include routine consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures. Our client base varies both financially and in expectations, so an ability to flex your people skills and adapt your approach to bring the clients along in the treatment of their pet, is essential. We aim to give all small animal vets a share of the surgical workload (if they so wish). Most complex surgery is conducted in-house by an RCVS AP in Small Animal Surgery.

Part-time and flexible working patterns are easily accommodated. We cover our own out-of-hours, with a rota of 1:6 or 7 weekends and one night per week. We offer a generous leave allowance (5 weeks plus 8 bank holiday equivalents).

The salary for this role is up to £54,000 depending on experience.

About Us

Located in Pembrokeshire, we are surrounded by stunning beaches and countryside. Oak Veterinary Group prides itself on a first-class small animal service, practising excellent medicine with great clients. We are kitted out with digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and on-site IDEXX laboratory equipment allowing us to run most blood tests in-house. A lot of our surgeries include orthopaedics, TECAs, wound reconstruction and we also have an aquatic treadmill in our branch surgery with a dedicated hydrotherapy/physiotherapy team.

We are a friendly and experienced team of vets and colleagues who can provide support to develop your skills, whilst working in a busy practice, with encouragement and flexibility to find your clinical pathway. Our vet and nursing teams span all ages and experiences, and we are very lucky to have several highly experienced members of the team, many of whom have been with us long-term.

Currently our team consists of 9 small animal Veterinary Surgeons, 5 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 2 Student Veterinary Nurses, 2 Animal Nursing Assistants, a large team of Receptionists and Support Staff. Our Clinical Director is a Certificate holder in Small Animal Surgery (RCVS Advanced Practitioner).

We are community-minded and support local charities including the DPJ Foundation, Pembrokeshire Animal Welfare Trust, and Pembrokeshire Hospital. In 2022 we completed a team challenge raising money for Ukraine. We also like to support the local agricultural shows and maintain a presence within the local community as well as supporting the charitable work by IVC (via the Care Fund and charity partners). We are active in promoting personal and clinical development and encourage CPD at all levels.

Applicant Requirements

We welcome applications for Veterinary Surgeons with all levels of experience including recent graduates. We encourage and fund CPD and the development of clinical interests. Certificate level study is encouraged, and for new grads we offer the Graduate Academy, including coaching, mentoring and relevant CPD.
