Role: Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

Location: Ormskirk, Lancashire

Hours: Permanent,  40 hour working week over. Full time, 1 in 4 weekends, (OOH = One evening per week from 6pm, you are then off for the following day expect 2 hours on consults in the evening , which equates to 4 days per week).  If you work the weekend, you receive the time off in lieu.

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience up to 50K per annum. (New graduates starting at 34K matched with IVC and 50K for a certificate holder.)

They are looking for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon, with immediate effect. This is a fantastic opportunity for qualified Vet, that is looking to step up and join a dedicated team of veterinary professionals, with an increasing general practice work load, mixture of consults and surgery.

The Role:

Dedication to maintenance of animal welfare must be your main priority. We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic, Veterinary Surgeon committed to providing high standards of patient care to join this independent, family run team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience, this is not essential, but preferred. The practice would consider applications from all levels of experience. All suitable applications will need to be able to ‘jump’ straight in and hit the ground running and should be able to work independently.

This role is being offered on a permanent basis at 4 days per week, which includes one evening on call from 6pm, you are then off for the full day following which equates to 4 days per week and 1 in 4 Saturday’s 9.00am- 6.00pm The working day starts at 9:00am and finishes at 6pm. On call starts from 6pm when the emergency phones switch over to you, on rota. Saturday consults 9.00am-12.30pm, you are then on call until 6pm. All OOH calls are filtered through the vidivet system which has recently been adopted by the practice in order that vets’ times are used to the up most efficiency. All communication through vidivet is transferred on to the practice management system seamlessly to give full case continuity. 

With a large and varied range of both surgical and medical cases, prospective candidates will be able to consult and operate in a very supportive environment with all the expected facilities, which include, all the usual toys plus, a hydrotherapy pool, acupuncture, laparoscopic spay kit coming in 2023, DR x ray machine and a new ultrasound machine capable of referral level imaging. They have also had a new wet lab installed into the Ormskirk hospital allowing them to give gold standard veterinary care.

Within this role you will be given a good degree of clinical freedom to deal with cases but there is always the opportunity to discuss things with a colleague. Support is available from the team.

This practice has a very loyal workforce and open positions do not come around very often; it is a stable team with low turnover. This role is available through growth of the practice and client demand. You will be joining a practice with team members being a advanced practitioner in GP practice and certificate holders in ECC and soon to be small animal surgery.

The practice is very flexible, they understand the importance of a work life balance, therefore all applications welcomed.  Part time, ideally is a 2–3-day week, whilst full time hours is a 4-day week which includes an OOH shift.

As a 5-site practice, including the hospital. You will be required to work any one of the locations when permitted.
