We are currently looking to recruit Registered Veterinary Nurses with an interest in Anaesthesia to come and join our team at Bristol Veterinary Specialists!

Within this role you will be required to examine animals undergoing sedation and anaesthesia, and report to a veterinary anaesthetist in the team to plan the protocol.You will also administer sedations, anaesthetics and will monitor anaesthesia under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon.

The role also offers rotation in and out of theatre (MRI, CT, X-rays, US) alongside other members of the team. The role will also involve helping to set up anaesthetic equipment and looking after the stock levels of anaesthetic consumables in MRI, CT and X-ray.

This position is full-time, working a 40-hour week (Monday – Friday) over 4 days.

Our anaesthesia nurses are also required to participate in the on-call rota alongside our senior anaesthetists for weekends and bank holidays.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Work and communicate effectively with clients and associates
  • Accurate completion of patient records and clear communication of patient treatment plans when liaising with the ward nurses for patient recoveries
  • To calculate and administer sedations, anaesthetics and medications to patients as instructed and monitor anaesthesia under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon
  • Display correct professional behaviours and advocate patient welfare
  • Maintain RVCS registration and comply with CPD requirements
  • To provide support and guidance to other RVNs and in relation to anaesthesia
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures at all times to include but not limited to; clinical tasks, infection control and health and safety policies


Successful Candidate:

To be successful in this role you need to be highly organised, with great attention to detail, able to use initiative and have the ability to cope with a fast-paced working environment. You should be a highly motivated team player with excellent communication skills and have the passion and drive for delivering outstanding client and patient care.

Although prior experience of anaesthesia at referral level would be desirable, we will also consider applicants with experience from general practice with a keen desire to lean and a passion for anaesthesia.

About us

Bristol Vet Specialists is a brand-new multidisciplinary referral centre, due to open in April 2023, in Central Park in Avonmouth, Bristol.

The existing Highcroft Veterinary Referrals in Whitchurch, Bristol, will move to the state-of-the-art facility and rebrand to Bristol Vet Specialists.
