Voluntary Veterinary Surgeon required for diverse Charity role in The Gambia

If you are a well organised vet who is ready for a challenge, with a passion for animals, patience, a willingness to share your knowledge and most of all a HUGE sense of adventure you may be the person we are looking for to help oversee the work of The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust.

We are seeking a Long Term Volunteer (minimum commitment of 12 months required), to be based at our centre in The Gambia, to oversee all aspects of the charities operations. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of the busy veterinary hospital and sanctuary for horses, donkeys, dogs, cats and the occasional camel or monkey!
  • To lead and motivate the staff team
  • Provide hospitality for visiting volunteers
  • To monitor and maintain good standards of animal care
  • Basic accounting and book keeping
  • Ensure equipment, facilities and site are well maintained
  • Record keeping

The right person (or couple) for the job will need a strong work ethic, have experience of living/working overseas, have excellent PR skills, strong management and record keeping abilities, an ability to think outside the box, a lot of common sense and initiative and be able to work in challenging conditions and a hot climate.

Huge amounts of compassion and empathy are essential, as is a great sense of humour and the ability to work well with people from other cultures. This is a great opportunity for a veterinary surgeon looking for a challenging and diverse role, away from the consulting room.

Flights, board and accommodation are provided for the successful applicants and monthly pocket money is provided.

Please send your CV to Heather via the APPLY button or telephone 01306 627568.
