Clinical Director - Maternity cover required at Crieff Vets, Perthshire

The Role

This is a dual practice role, working between 2 separate practices in Perthshire, Crieff Vets and Fair City Vets. The practices are both run independent of each other with a focus on inter-practice and collaboration. I firmly believe that having 2 practices gives me balance and perspective in my working life! The hours and shifts are flexible, I’ve done all sorts in the last few years, over 3, 4 and 5 days. Both teams are motivated, and we have encouraged the staff to be able to work independently and autonomously, giving me time to focus on development of both people and the business.

Salary for the role is up to £70,000 depending on experience.

Rota patterns that work for you

Our people are at the heart of everything that we do, that’s why we know that work-life balance is vital in supporting our people to be their best selves. Our flexible approach to rota patterns and working hours offers a balance that truly flexes with you and your lifestyle no matter what stage you are in your career.

About Us
This is a very unique role – offering the opportunity to manage 2 separate practices in Perthshire; Crieff Vets and Fair City Vets. Having 2 separate, yet closely linked practices, offers different challenges and a unique perspective and balance to your working life. The role is fun and varied, and very fulfilling!

So, the practices. Both are in Perthshire, one of the most beautiful places in Scotland and quite possibly the world. The area is right on the edge of the Highlands, which are stunning and a great place for outdoor pursuits. You can be skiing in Glenshee, sipping cocktails in Glasgow or Edinburgh, or strolling on a beach in St Andrews, all within an hour.

Crieff is a highland market town, with a full complement of shops on the high street (including an old fashioned sweet shop and a shop selling whisky!). The practice forms an integral part of this rural community and many of our clients have been using the practice for decades.

Fair City is situated just on the outskirts of Perth city centre. Despite it’s more urban outlook, Fair City also boasts a core clientele of long term bonded clients.

In term of equipment, both have a full complement of lab analysers, ultrasound and digital x-ray. Fair City has a flexible endoscope and Crieff does keyhole surgery. So there’s plenty to keep you entertained. There’s also the scope to expand services if there’s something different you feel you could bring to the table.

About the Team and Culture
Both practices are fully staffed with a full complement of excellent vets, RVNs, Student nurses and Animal Care assistants. The teams are stable and confident, and the culture in both practices prioritises wellbeing and supporting one another. Both practices are training practices with an emphasis on sharing knowledge and developing each other. In total you would be managing around 40 individuals, who all work with you to keep the practices moving and developing.

Applicant Requirements
We are looking for someone who can come and join us in doing things differently. We need someone who cares about vet teams, and who is willing to join with us in prioritising staff wellbeing and empowering people to make our profession a better place to work.

Over the last 2 years we’ve tried to reimagine what being in practice looks like. We’ve done our best to put people at the heart of what we’re doing. We outsource our out of hours (because everyone deserves time off) and introduced integrated team management. We’ve also made it our policy to make work fit around peoples family and personal lives and not make people’s lives and families fit around their work. We’re also trying to change the world outside the practice too, making eco switches where we can and thinking about our place in the big wide world. There’s so much more we can do and I’m truly excited for the future.

If you’re finishing a day at work and questioning whether working as a vet is still what you want, then this may be the answer. This is an opportunity to shape the profession, one (or two!) practices at a time. If it works for everyone, there’s also the possibility of you staying on when the current Clinical Director returns.
