The Role

Here at Blake Vets, we are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our team! In this role you’ll be working with a motivated and talented team of Veterinary Surgeons, working alongside clinical protocols and an incredible nursing team to ensure that the best treatment for our patients will be achieved. 

The rota will include working 4 days per week with an average of 38 hours a week, however we can be flexible for the right candidate. OOH is covered by an external provider from 7pm and we are on-call for our own inpatients ensuring case continuity. 1:7 whole weekend commitment, 1:7 Saturday mornings until midday, and one-night duty per week. We are happy to consider part time applications.

The salary for this role will be up to £60,000 depending on experience.

About Us

We have 3 practices within our group, Showground Road and Robins Drive in Bridgwater and Berrow Road in Burnham on sea. The main Blake Practice is well-equipped with a friendly team, based just outside North Petherton. It has the benefit of on-site digital X-ray, separate dental X-ray equipment, ultrasound, endoscopy and laparoscopy. We are a friendly, supportive team working to a high clinical standard. This is a busy first opinion practice, which sees a variety of interesting cases. You will find each day different, and you will be able to use your clinical judgment to manage and investigate your own cases.

As a Veterinary Surgeon you will work alongside a team of 8 Veterinary Surgeons, 11 Registered Veterinary Nurses and team a Care Assistants, and a dedicated Support Team. The team takes great pride in the relationships they have built with their patients, clients, and the local community. We have certificate holders in medicine as well as surgery.

Applicant Requirements 

The ideal candidate will have sound surgical skills as well as excellent consultation skills. An approachable and consultative style is essential in this role. Support is available for anyone interested in studying for a certificate, or who wishes to gain further leadership and management training. We are looking for someone who strives for clinical excellence, client, and patient care, has a passion to do things right clinically, and importantly is a great team player.

We are a two centre, 8 vet small animal practice based in Somerset dedicated to providing the best possible care to our patients for the whole of their lives.  We have been awarded "Outstanding in Client Care" by the RCVS.

Our main site is a purpose built surgery in Bridgwater and we have a smaller branch surgery in Burnham on Sea.

We have all the mod cons expected in a progressive forward thinking practice including laparoscopic equipment, cystoscopy, dental x-ray and much more.

Several of our vets are working towards additional post grad qualifications.

We are proud to cover our own Out of Hours feeling it is in the best interest of our patients. 

All Out of Hours cases are seen at the Bridgwater surgery where we have 24 hour on site nursing care from our 10 strong team of veterinary nurses.
