Veterinary Officer

Based at Heathrow Animal Reception Centre, with regional inspections and flexible working arrangements.
The City of London’s Animal Health and Welfare Service is looking to recruit a part time Veterinary Officer to work alongside its team of Inspectors responsible for the licensing of activities involving animals and for health and welfare controls across Greater London.
The City of London is contracted by 30 Local Authorities across London and the Home Counties to carry out inspections and to advise and undertake enforcement work relating to animal health and welfare. The team also have responsibility for illegally imported mammals in Greater London, and work alongside our Heathrow Animal Reception Centre to ensure robust regulatory control of exotic notifiable diseases including rabies.
We are looking for a part time Veterinary Officer to work flexibly 21 hours a week, primarily undertaking inspections of dog breeding facilities, Dangerous Wild Animal licenses and Zoo applications. Inspections of pet shops and boarding establishments will also be undertaken, and the right candidate may undertake inspections and checks on riding schools and other hiring of horses activities.
Candidates will have considerable knowledge of dog breeding, either through small animal practice or other experience, and will have a comprehensive understanding of the role and responsibilities that Local Authorities have for animal health and welfare.

The successful candidate will require to obtain a standard DBS clearance and verification of MRCVS. Part of this role requires you to own a vehicle.
