The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Veterinary surgeon to join our close-knit team.

We have a diverse caseload on offer for the successful candidate which will see you carrying out both 15-minute consults and operations on a daily basis.

Typically, our vets work between 9 am and 6:30 pm during the week, over 4 or 5 days, along with 1 in 6 Saturdays between 9 am and 3 pm and no out-of-hours work.

We know that everyone has demands and priorities outside of their career and we want to make it brilliantly easy for you to strike the right balance.

Whether you are looking for full-time, part-time or flexible hours, we can find the right solution for you.

The salary for this role is up to £65,000 FTE depending on experience, along with a welcome bonus of up to £2,500.

About Us

Hillman vets are a 6 branch practice based in the West Midlands. We are well equipped with digital x-ray machines, Ultrasound machines which we use for abdominal scanning and echocardiograms. We also own a laser therapy machine and laparoscopic equipment.

We are close to Birmingham and Lichfield city centre where you will find a wide choice of shops, bars, restaurants and theatres to enjoy. We are also close to Sutton Park and Cannock chase where there are plenty of outdoor activities if that is an interest.

About the Team and Culture

Our fantastic team is made up of 9 FTE Veterinary surgeons, 11 FTE Veterinary nurses, and 22 support team members including dedicated receptionists and Veterinary Care Assistants. We have 4 members of our veterinary team who have their Vet GDP and OV status. We have 4 of our veterinary team with GP certificates in Surgery, diagnostic imaging, small animal practice and ophthalmology.

We are very happy to help Veterinary surgeons advance and progress in the area of small animal practice they are most interested in and are happy to support certificates and further personal development. 3 of our vets have recently studied certificates in diagnostic imaging, surgery and orthopaedics and ophthalmology.

Across the team, we also have staff with special interests in cardiology, medicine, and exotic medicine.

Staff Testimonial

“When I started at Hillmans 3 years ago as a new grad, I was really afraid that I would be judged as I didn't have much experience, but most of what I know today I owe to my Hillman’s family. Working at Hillmans allowed me to develop into a better veterinary surgeon and pursue my dreams with a Certificate in the veterinary field that I am interested in.”

“A family vibe is always present and after-work chats and drinks are must-do for us.

There is always someone at the end of the phone or in our what’s app group and this is what makes me feel safe. In no time you can develop further and start to make your own clinical decisions and judgements. Monthly vet meetings are helpful to discuss cases and hear other colleagues’ opinions. All of that would be impossible without our amazing nursing team (and reception team) whom you can rely on at any time.”

Applicant Requirements

We would like our candidate to be hard-working and passionate about small animal practice. We will offer support to help the candidate progress and expand their knowledge and experience.

Ideally, the candidate will have some experience in consulting and routine surgery.

We require a new Veterinary Surgeon who can join our team and help us to continue to offer a high standard of care to our very loyal clients.
