Job Details

Independent, multi-site practice with brand new, state of the art hospital is seeking another Veterinary Surgeon to join their small animal team, York. Excellent work/life balance with 30 days holiday plus bank holidays!

Situated within easy reach of the historic, vibrant city of York as well as the North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Wolds, this mixed practice with multiple sites across York is looking for another vet to join their team.

The practice has just opened a brand new 24/7-hour hospital site to provide exceptional round the clock pet care. A forward-thinking, progressive approach is an important part of their ethos and they are always looking to help their team develop and pursue their own areas of interest.

The new site boasts amazing facilities and equipment including a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy unit, laparoscopic surgery, three dedicated operating theatres, laser therapy, full in-house lab.

The diagnostic imaging suite consists of:

  • Digital x-ray
  • Dental x-ray
  • Ultrasound scanner
  • Video endoscopy
  • And a CT scanner is coming soon!

The small animal team is made up of 12 skilled, supportive and welcoming vets with a wide-ranging set of clinical interests including certificate holders in cardiology, medicine, animal behaviour, and surgery. Supporting the vets are a wonderful team of over 25 nurses with a dedicated night nursing team.

Key Duties

  • A full-time role with this practice would be 40 hours per week, with the days typically split up with operations and consultations to ensure variety. However, if you have a preference towards medicine/surgery this can certainly be accommodated.
  • With the hospital site being 24 hours, there is an OOH rota of 1 in 7 (weekdays and weekends) but you do get this time back in lieu.
  • Again, the practice can be flexible with this and will consider no/reduced OOH for the right candidate.
  • With this being a mixed practice, there is flexibility within the role to do large animal work alongside small should you wish.

Package and Benefits

  • This practice offers a generous salary of up to £60,000 for the right candidate
  • In addition to your salary, the practice is happy to provide accommodation for those relocating to the area as well as for on call nights should you require it
  • The holiday package is fantastic, with 30 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • The practice is incredibly keen to help their team develop, and so CPD is actively encouraged and fully supported including funding of certificates
  • All professional fees are covered, and staff wellbeing and work-life balance is a top priority

Key Skills, Qualifications and Client Requirements

  • Ideally you will be comfortable with routine surgical procedures and consultations, however the practice is always happy to help you develop your skills and personal areas of interest. There is an incredibly supportive working environment at this practice, so all levels of experience are encouraged to apply.
