Job Details

We are looking for a great first opinion small animal vet to join our happy and vibrant team at Cathedral Vets Ely, part of the Companion Care and Vets4Pets group.1

At Cathedral Vets we pride ourselves on our kindness and compassion to each other and our patients and clients. Our aim is to treat every patient as if they were our own and go above and beyond to offer the best possible care in every situation.

We are a forward thinking and progressive team passionate about continued learning. We hold regular lunch and learns and practice meetings, encourage the development of any specific interests within the team and are open to any CPD or certification requests that will benefit team members and the practice. Having a lovely loyal client-base, the majority of whom are insured, means we have the ability to work up cases to a high standard in-house and also means we get great case exposure as a clinical team. Our clinical director Bridget has a particular interest in surgery and we benefit from using visiting specialists for peripatetic services (eg. ophthalmology, cardiology). We also have close ties with Cambridge vet school, local referral centres and Cambridge radiology referrals for more complex cases and advice.

In work, we aim to ensure our team have the time they need to work-up cases to the level we pride ourselves on but also get the time needed to sustain this. Regular breaks are scheduled throughout our working day, 30 minute consults are booked for more complex cases and our nurses carry out consults and schedule three procedures. We endeavour to leave on time and on the rare occasion that we don't, overtime will either be paid or taken in lieu and we can offer flexible hours depending on what works best for you.2

I've both trained and worked at Cathedral Vets for 10 years now and have loved every moment of it. The team are like family and look after each other through thick and thin. We have great relationships with the clients who are fantastic and love all our patients even the naughty ones! Cathy Owen, Head RVN

As a very friendly and welcoming team we enjoy working closely together and socialising outside of work. There is always something fun in the diary to look forward to and everyone's birthday is celebrated with a lunch, cake and the exchanging of gifts.

We are looking for either a Full time or Part time vet to complete our 2.5 vet team offering flexibility in our rota. Full time work equates to 40hrs/week worked over a Four-day week with 1/3 weekends after which time of in lieu is given for working a weekend. Sole charge is limited to weekends only. Our OOHs are covered by a 24-hour hospital in Cambridge so you will not need to cover this as part of this role. We are ideally looking for a vet happy with routine medical work-ups and surgeries and can offer opportunities for progression in a number of areas whether that's building on your overall clinical experience, certification, picking up leadership responsibilities or in mentoring less experienced vets.

If you are a less experienced vet or new graduate we can also provide support tailored to your needs and have a VetGDP advisor in our team.

Our standalone practice is ‘bijou' but perfectly formed and in a lovely setting behind the beautiful Ely Cathedral and market square. This means walking to town for a wonder round the shops or a walk by the river is easy. We are 15 miles from Cambridge and an hour from the beautiful North Norfolk coastline.

We offer a salary of up to £65K and our benefits package includes:3

  • 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays (on which we are closed)
  • RCVS, BVA, VDS membership
  • Relocation package (to be discussed at interview)
  • Funded CPD including certificates
  • First aid training
  • Mental health first aider in practice
  • Counselling service
  • Colleague discount plus discount at Pets at Home, the Groom room and exclusive discards on our reward hub4

We are looking for a new team member who shares our values and is looking to be part of a close and supportive team. If you are interested or would like some more information on the role we would love to hear from you. Please apply directly or feel free to get in touch with our practice Manager Denise on denise.white@companioncare.co.uk or call us on 01353 662079.

"We want our colleagues to be as diverse as our clients. Our teams are inclusive and celebrate difference so if you meet our role requirements, we'd love to hear from you. "
