Part-time Veterinary Surgeon required at Belmont Vets, Hereford

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a part time Veterinary Surgeon to join our team but full time hours would also be available if preferred.

We would be particularly interested to hear from a candidate who is wishing to have involvement in the leadership of the practice as a Deputy Clinical Director or Senior Vet, however, this is not a requirement. No prior management experience is necessary as training will be provided.

We are a busy first opinion practice with excellent standards of clinical care.

You will work alongside our friendly team of vets, nurses and receptionists, both consulting and spending at least one day a week in theatre.

The role would consist of a 1:5 participation in the weekend rota as well as involvement in an evening inpatient rota no more than once a week.

Weekends consist of Saturday consultations from 8.30-5pm and inpatient responsibilities on the few occasions that we have these. There are no OOH requirements for this role.

About the practice

We are a single site, RCVS accredited, small animal practice in the beautiful city of Hereford

We endeavour to set the highest standards and keep up with the latest developments to give the best possible patient care and client experience.

We are a busy practice with a varied caseload. We work closely with our local Cats Protection Clinic allowing for exposure to shelter medicine as well as private clientele. We aim to keep the majority of surgeries in house and have a visiting orthopaedic specialist and specialist in diagnostic imaging that frequently attend the practice in order to help us provide an excellent service for our patients.

We are a very friendly, approachable and collaborative team that regularly work together on cases in order to achieve the best outcome for the case. We are supportive of CPD and further qualifications, as such we have vets currently undertaking certificates in Oncology and Small animal surgery. We have all the usual equipment, including our own in-house Idexx biochemistry and haematology analysers along with standard diagnostic laboratory equipment, digital x-ray, multi-parameter anaesthetic monitoring machine, ultrasound and ECG and a K-laser machine.

About the area

Hereford has a long, illustrious history and was one of the first towns founded in England under Roman rule. Today, it has become a popular city near the Welsh border, sat on the river wye offering quaint countryside, charming architecture and plenty of culture.

There’s plenty to do and see, whether you’re exploring the old market shopping centre or enjoy getting back to nature in the surrounding countryside.  Herefordshire is a hiker’s dream with 2,100 miles of dedicated footpaths, with the Malvern Hills and Brecon beacons being right on our doorstep.

We know how important work-life balance is, so we arrange our diary to make sure that you leave on time, with consults finishing at least half an hour before your shift ends and blocks of protected time secured throughout the day for catching-up on admin.
