Independent Mixed Practice

Independent rural mixed practices still exist!  If you enjoy the variety and challenge of genuinely mixed practice, and would like to work in a beautiful area of Scotland, we have the job for you. 

We are looking for a vet who would like to settle in the stunning countryside surrounding our surgeries in Biggar and Peebles, ideally with experience.   All our vets do a bit of everything, but there is plenty of scope to follow your own interests, whether that is small animal, equine or farm.  Our clients are generally lovely, and appreciate our time and down-to-earth advice.  We have no targets, no shareholders, charge sensible prices and can make quick decisions. 

Our two surgeries are small but well equipped, with Robovet PMS, digital xray, ultrasound, vetscan biochemistry and haematology, multiparameter monitor, power equine dental floats and bull/ram fertility testing kit.  Our standards of care are continually improving, and we are always open to suggestions for new equipment and new services we can potentially offer.  We encourage CPD and will fund a certificate. 

A full time (37.5 hours over 4.5 days plus 1 in 6 on call) or part time position is available.  We offer flexible working patterns - no reasonable request is refused as we try to make a rota which keeps everyone happy.  As a practice we do all our own on call which is equally shared - it's generally not too busy and there's a Monday off after working a weekend (with an extra vet there could be more time in lieu.)  Our day starts at 8.30am, with alternate 5pm and 6pm finishes.  The last consult is at 5.30pm (6.30pm one night per week in each surgery).

The practice is RCVS PSS Accredited for small animal, equine and farm, we are a VN training practice, and pay all our team at least the Scottish Living Wage.  Between the two surgeries we have 3 full time and 3 part time vets, 3 full time and 3 part time RVNs, 2 SVNs, an ACA and 6 receptionists/admin staff. 

Both Biggar and Peebles are bustling towns, but if you need the city, Glasgow and Edinburgh are under an hour away.  We have very good local primary and secondary schools, excellent transport links, and airports within an hour too.
