About us:

We are seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join our small animal, exotic, and zoo team at Medivet Dover (Burnham House)

Medivet Dover also has excellent facilities, brilliant nursing staff, and a friendly and supportive team. This is a great opportunity for those wanting to consolidate their skills in domestic species, whilst expanding their knowledge of our more unusual patients.

 This role will be based at Dover, plus a shared consult rota at our smaller branches which are a mere 10-15 minutes away from the main practice.

Here at Dover as well as a wide range of diagnostic, surgical, and post-operative services and facilities including ultrasoundorthopaedics, and physiotherapy. We have full indoor and outdoor hospitalisation facilities for all exotic species including vivaria, incubators, aviaries, and isolation facilities, as well as accommodation for aquatic species. Many of our vets and nurses are qualified in exotic animal care. Our friendly and experienced team looks forward to welcoming you.

The role:

This role works on a 4-day week with 1:5 weekends. 

Full-time salary package up to £60,000 per annum depending on experience to include:

  • - 5 weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays
  • - 4-day working week with 1:5 weekends.
  • - 4 weeks' paid sabbatical (after every 5 years of service)
  • - Enhanced Maternity and Paternity Pay
  • - £1,500 CPD Allowance plus 3 days CPD leave (FTE)
  • - Accommodation allowance or Accommodation available if required
  • - Vehicle allowance or company vehicle
  • - RCVS, BVA and VDS fees paid

An interest in exotic animals would be an advantage however we are happy to help grow your knowledge and experience in this field.

Key Accountabilities:

  • - Ensure all team members provide quality and ethical care to all clients and their pets/livestock
  • - Assess and examine and diagnose patients’ medical issues
  • - Perform surgery, dress, and treat wounds
  • - Perform diagnostic laboratory, imaging, and ultrasound testing where required
  • - Prescribe medication
  • - Promote preventative care by advocating and administering routine vaccinations and immunisations
  • - Educate clients on positive lifestyle choices for pets/livestock
  •  Euthanise patients
  • - Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statutes, policies, and procedures
  • - Maintain medical Patients' medical records
