Veterinary Surgeon Opportunity – Greenside Veterinary Practice
(St Boswells, Scottish Borders)

Job Type: Permanent, full time (part time gratefully considered)

Hours: Full time rota; 4.5 days per week, 8.45am – 5pm as standard, 8.45-1pm on half day with 1 in 5 OOH’s. We welcome discussions regarding the ideal rota for you and we do have flexibility with rota/shifts/OOH’s.

Your role and responsibilities

The right candidate for the role will be an enthusiastic, friendly Companion Animal and Large Animal Veterinary Surgeon, with good communication skills. This is a very rare opportunity for a vet to join our super friendly, family feel practice where we pride ourselves on providing a good work: life balance along with lots of on-the-job support for our colleagues.

We are looking for a lovely person to join our close-knit team. We take
a fair share of ops and consulting but with preferences and special interests well understood and encouraged. We have a very open and honest management style and encourage regular feedback from our associates to get the very best working environment for everyone.

Greenside Vets is a mixed practice with a solid farm base and an ever-expanding quality companion animal component. Our main site is well equipped including; DR x-ray, new ultrasound, dental x-ray, broncho-scopy, gastroscopy, and multi-parameters. We have a growing ortho-paedic caseload and perform some advanced soft tissue procedures in house too. Our purpose-built rehabilitation and stem cell referral unit
has recently been completed and includes a hydrotherapy underwater treadmill and qualified veterinary physiotherapists within the team. This is the only one of its kind in Scotland and presents a huge opportunity to our clients and their pets.

Our purpose-built Large Animal unit includes two Easi-scan ultra-sound scanners, bull and tup fertility testing equipment and in house hospitalisation facilities including calf warmer alongside all the usual equipment. We run well supported in house beef and sheep clubs with many clients participating in herd health schemes. Our large animal caseload does not include equine and is mainly beef and sheep with minimal dairy work, some camelids and goats are seen too. We have pool cars meaning no smells in your own vehicle!

Our out of hours work is well supported with a dedicated nurse on call with the vet to assist where required. Our nurses expect to be called in! We have no routine weekend consulting and we give you Friday off after your weekend on call.

Don’t just take our word for it

Rebecca joined us in February as we have had a baby boom here at Greenside, she says:

“It’s honestly the best practice I’ve ever been to, including for EMS. Everyone is so nice and supportive, I genuinely couldn’t believe it was true at first. Literally everyone asks everyone else for help with no shame or being made to feel lacking, from new grads to the clinical directors. And don’t forget the regular socializing outside of work, the parties are legendary but also you’re not made to feel left out if you’re not into that and instead want to wait to hear the stories the following week.”

We would love to hear from you, please contact Chloe or Emily at chloe.summerfield@greensidevetpractice.co.uk or emily.rainbow@greensidevetpractice.co.uk if you have any questions about the role or to apply
