Contact Details

Our client has four practices within Bristol and the surrounding areas. They are now looking for a Full or Part time Small Animal Vet to join them.

Three of the three branches provide both surgery and consulting and one smaller branch practice for consulting only (but this may change in the future). The main practices are equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, dental machines, dental x-rays as well as the basic necessities for a first opinion practice. They have visiting referral orthopaedic veterinary surgeons (RATA), who offer invaluable advice on all orthopaedic cases and visit to either undertake orthopaedic consults or surgeries. The clients are just as important as their pets, they take pride in building strong relationships with clients and being part of their family as much as they are a part of the teams. They help a very wide range of loyal clientele, many of them are insured which offers great opportunity to work to the standard they all strive for. The clinics is also very keen to offer continuity to clients which allows you to manage your own cases independently.

The team is friendly and supportive and they have a wide range of knowledge with a combined experience of the vets of over 50 years. Many of the staff have been with the clinic for decades. They have 6 veterinary surgeons, 5 registered veterinary nurses, 2 student nurses and 8 support staff. They all work together as one team – sharing opinions, discussing cases, teaching and communication is a really important part of the day to day here. Equally the team also enjoy meeting in the pub or going out for a roast. We strive to maintain a healthy work/life balance whilst encourage openness around mental wellbeing – and there is even have mental health first aiders in the team.

The vets work 8.30am-6.30pm. It is unusual for them run late (but you never know when emergencies happen) - they are usually out the door by 6.30pm - so plenty of time for you to enjoy your evening. There are no OOH’s as this is covered by Vets Now, weekends consist of Saturdays 8.30am-4pm only, on a 1 in 4 basis currently.

The full-time vets work a 4-day week, but they are very happy to offer a part time position, with hours to suit you. They are keen to work with you and be as flexible as possible. They split consult/surgery time evenly between the vets during the week, so there will be a chance to operate at least 2 days a week. They offer 15-minute consultations minimum and extended consults for more complex cases, euthanasias or new pets/clients. The diary is organised with plenty of room for appointments, surgery, breaks, catch ups and time for phone calls. There is also a fairly constant stream of tea and coffee to keep you going.

Ideally you will have some experience but it is more important to the client that you have a flexible working approach and will fit in well with the team. The role will be sole charge, based primarily at a branch, so you must be able to drive as there may additional cover required at other branches. Salary for this role is up to £55,000 depending on experience.
