The Role

We have an opening for a part-time Exotics Vet in our well-respected Cambridge practice. The ideal candidate will have measurable experience in the care of exotic species in order to lead this service going forward. Those with an advanced qualification in exotics are welcome! The role will be to perform consultations and procedures alongside our experienced nursing team and other mixed species vets. An ability to see cats and dogs occasionally would be preferable but not essential.

The opening is currently 2 days a week and we would like to reach a mutually agreeable pattern for the right candidate.

There is an equal share in the weekend rota which is 1:7 for Saturday mornings and 1:7 for the morning plus emergencies and care of any inpatients over the weekend. There is no OOH associated with this role.

Salary

The salary for this role is up to £70,000, pro rata, depending on experience.

About Us

We are a single site practice with a supportive, family feel. Due to our central and long-standing location within the city we have a very loyal client base, both on the small animal and exotics side. Due to the hard work of Jill Pearson over more than 40 years our practice has an excellent reputation for giving outstanding care to exotic species, and we have recently had the opportunity to accept referral cases in addition to second opinions as our exotic load has increased since C-19. We currently have Gold RWAF accreditation. We have a large geographic capture area for clients as there are few exotics practices locally, and
the clinic boasts vivaria, exotic specific lab and clinical equipment, and
a nursing team with a wealth of enthusiasm and experience.

Our facilities include main beam and dental digital x-ray with intra-oral plates for rabbits, rigid and flexible scopes, ultrasound (with a RCVS AP in diagnostic imaging), Park's doppler, Nebauber haemocytometer, fluid warmer, exotics specific ETTs and circuit mount, dental kit and head support, and a well-stocked pharmacy, alongside the usual theatre and consultation equipment. We have headed vivaria for reptiles, chelonia and birds.

Cambridge is a fantastic historic city with good transport links to London, Stansted Airport, with the beautiful Norfolk and Suffolk coast a short drive away.

About the Team and Culture

We are a close-knit community of 9 vets and 10 RVNs. We have a very strong qualified nursing team who are able to provide excellent support and have such initiative and drive. We also support trainee nurses as well as EMS students, many of whom are interested in exotics and visit due to our reputation. We have 3 certificate holders: a CertAVP(VDI) RCVS Advanced Practitioner, CertAVP(SAM) and PGCert. Many of our team members are part time and we fully support this style of working.

Our diary is managed to allow admin time, stop consultations 30 minutes before the end of the day, have breaks to allow for those unexpectedly longer appointments, and an hour's lunch built into every day. CPD is encouraged and we do support our vets and nurses in this area.

As an IVC practice there are many benefits to joining a wider company.
We would be happy to have an informal conversation with any potential candidate via the practice contact details / Clinical Director.

Applicant Requirements

Our preferred candidate will have significant experience in care for
exotic species and be confident to be the lead of our team in this area, providing support to other team members. A candidate with advanced qualifications, such as a certificate, would be ideal. Good interpersonal skills with colleagues and clients are a must, along with good time management and communication skills which are pertinent to a part time role.
