The Role

Having been a successful independent practice for 15 years, we joined the IVC family a year ago. The original practice owner held the role of Clinical Director in order to ensure a smooth transition which has now been completed. However, he is now retiring from the practice and we are therefore looking for a full-time permanent Clinical Director (though we would consider part-time) who will take our practice into the future. Alongside good management and leadership skills, we are looking for a Vet who is keen to work up cases, provides excellent client care, and has good communication skills.

Currently, our Vets work 4 days full-time (9:00am-6:30pm) with a share in the Saturday morning rota and evening/weekend in-patient rota. Our emergency out of hours is undertaken by VetsNow, though we continue to look after in-patients.

The salary will be up to £85,000 depending on experience.

About Us

The Anglesey Pet Clinic is a 100% small animal veterinary surgery based in beautiful Anglesey just 5 minutes from the beach and a 45-minute drive from the Snowdonia Mountains. with a loyal client base. We see lots of dogs, cats, and exotics. Our equipment is extensive and includes modern IDEXX in-house laboratory (catalyst and procyte), digital AGFA CR X-ray, video endoscope and bronchoscope, colour Doppler ultrasound with ECG, tonopen, slit lamp - all of these would allow candidates to work up cases fully in-house.

Our workload ranges from the standard (e.g. vaccinations, microchipping, neutering, dentals, in-house laboratory, X-ray interpretation pet passports, pregnancy diagnosis with ultrasound, hip and elbow scoring, PAT dog assessments), to more specialist services and treatments, such as chemotherapy, echocardiograms, ECG, video endoscope and bronchoscope for non-invasive investigations and advanced surgeries. The outgoing Clinical Director holds a PGCertSAS and has a particular interest in small animal surgery and orthopaedics (regularly carrying out TTAs). We therefore already have an extensive collection of orthopaedic equipment including LEAP kit, Securos 2.4mm locking plate kit and a wide range of standard cortical and external fixator kits.

We have a devoted and supportive team that consists of two Veterinary Surgeons, two dedicated Nurses (one Student Nurse), and a Practice Manager. Our current clinical director holds a PGCert SAS and frequently undertakes advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures and is more than happy to pass on his knowledge.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking to welcome a Veterinary Surgeon to our team with great clinical and person skills who is a keen and skilled surgeon happy to carry out more advanced procedures at the practice and mentor younger Vets. Ideally, you would have had some management or Clinical Director experience, but the role would also suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to develop the leadership skills needed for a Clinical Director position.

As a BAME and LGBTQ+ inclusive employer, we are keen to hear from candidates from all minority and diverse groups. As a Disability Confident Employer, we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long-term health conditions and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.
