Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
This role is part of the Biosecurity Surveillance & Incursion Investigation (SII) Animal Health team.
Incursion Investigators (Animal Health) receive and manage reports of diseases. The role includes covering the afterhours Duty Investigator roster. Every day will be different, and you will be planning and leading investigations (including field investigations) into reports of unwanted pests and diseases.
On finding new to New Zealand, emerging and unwanted organisms you will be making rapid risk assessments based on clinical and epidemiological findings, including current information on exotic and emerging diseases/pests, economic factors, and probability of success of various disease/pest control options. Additionally, you may prepare key response documents including specifications for Surveillance, Movement Control (including Controlled Area and Restricted Place Notices) and Organism Management. You may also become a member of, or lead, key operational teams during larger biosecurity responses and exercises into animal health.

Our ideal candidate will have:
- A veterinary undergraduate degree Registration with the New Zealand Veterinary Council A post graduate degree in a relevant discipline or willingness to learn Experience leading exotic disease investigations in the New Zealand context Minimum of 5-10 years’ large animal experience in New Zealand Experience of NZ farming practices A proven history as an effective team player and a self-starting work ethic
