Wear Referrals (part of Linnaeus Veterinary Limited, owned by Mars) is a multi-disciplinary, specialist veterinary referral hospital in the North East of England, close to the historic university city of Durham, the thriving city of Newcastle, and set between the north east coast and the Pennines. The hospital is also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and Scotland. 

Our specialist services include neurology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, anaesthesia, oncology, diagnostic imaging and cardiology, as well as a busy primary care out-of-hours emergency service and in-house physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. Our team of 170 staff includes 17 European/RCVS Specialists and over 65 registered veterinary nurses.

Your role and responsibilities

We are pleased to announce that we are currently inviting applications for our 12-month fixed term Rotating Internship programme.

Our hospital facilities include a dedicated ICU staffed 24 hours a day, spacious wards with walk-in kennels, in-house 1.5T Siemens Magnetom Essenza MRI, 16 slice Siemens Somatom Emotion helical CT, digital radiography, digital fluoroscopy, a Samsung RS85 ultrasound system and Arthrex / Karl Storz Laparoscopic/thoracoscopic and arthroscopic imaging systems.

The ideal candidate should be dedicated, hard-working, committed to continuous improvement and hold a veterinary degree registerable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Applicants should have a minimum of 12 months postgraduate experience in a small animal clinical practice, or have completed a previous internship.

The internship will include rotations in neurology, orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, emergency & critical care and cardiology. Time will also be within the busy out of hours service.

Second year specialist internships may be available at the end of this fixed term contract and we also have active residency programmes in internal medicine, surgery and oncology.

Involvement in clinical research, CPD and externships is actively encouraged, supported by a generous CPD budgets and paid leave packages. This is complimented by journal clubs, in-house specialist seminars and small group teaching. We offer our interns the opportunity to become actively involved as a member of our team, not just to observe from the sidelines.

Wear Referrals is a veterinary referral service for the North of England, based in our brand new State-of-the-Art veterinary referral and emergency hospital. Being conveniently located 300 yards off Junction 60 on the A1 (which is the Sedgefield turnoff) allows rapid and easy access for all referred clients and emergencies.</strong></p> <p>We&nbsp;accept referrals in the following disciplines; orthopaedics, spinal surgery, soft tissue surgery and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Our facilities include 1.5T MRI (human MRI scanner), 16-slice CT scanner, fluoroscopy, a chemotherapy ward, a lecture theatre, a rehabilitation ward and a dedicated intensive care unit. The new hospital allows us to further expand our referral services and thus provide a better service to referring vets and pet owners. Our aim is that it will become a Centre of Excellence both clinically and educationally.</p> <p>Excellent communication with clients and referring veterinary surgeons, a high standard of expertise and patient care are our goals. We constantly invest in training and new equipment, which enables us to give our client’s pets the best possible treatment.</p>
