The Role

Here at Wendover Heights Veterinary Centre, we are seeking an experienced Equine Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys the freedom of ambulatory work but also appreciates the time to use and develop their skills in a clinic environment with operating and inpatient facilities.

Most of our ambulatory work is within a thirty-minute drive of the
practice to minimise travel time. The majority of horses we see are leisure/competition horses with an increasing geriatric population
(and a few donkeys!) all of whose owners appreciate a practice happy
to discuss every treatment option.

The Equine Vet team is supported by 3 experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses and a Clinical Groom plus an Equine Coordinator and a Practice Manager.

The standard working week is 5 days plus out of hours. There will be 1:6 nights and weekends with time off in lieu. You will be on call from home, so you do not have to stay on-site and phone calls are taken by a receptionist.

The normal working hours are from 8:30am to 6:00pm daily, depending on workload, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break.

Salary

The Salary for this role is up to £50,000 plus relocation allowance.

About Us

Wendover Heights is a long-established and busy mixed practice
with a varied caseload. We are renowned for our supportive culture, collaborative approach and for having a close-knit team. The practice was an example practice in the BVA Good Workplace project and was one of three finalists in the Pet Plan Practice of the Year Award in 2019. We joined IVC Evidensia in 2019 and have benefitted from a good deal of investment in new equipment.

Wendover Heights Equine is BEVA accredited for stud work. We have an equine clinic with inpatient facilities and an operating theatre. Visiting Veterinary Surgeons come in to carry out the more complex procedures and we refer abdominal surgeries. There are separate small animal and equine departments, both Tier 2 RCVS accredited. Our main site facilities also include a stand-alone pet shop and canine rehabilitation unit. We have staff kennels to allow dog owners to bring their pets to work and enjoy walks in local woods and fields. We provide lunches daily and hold frequent social events.

We visit schools and take part in local shows and careers fairs, also working with and fund-raising for local charities. Two members of our team have worked for Mission Rabies in Africa and India.

Nationally, we have provided veterinary services at the 2012 London Olympics plus supervision on film sets for many films and commercials. One of our Equine Vets works at the Horse of the Year Show and we provide duty Vet cover for local equine shows and point-to-point events.
