The Role 

Ardene House, Aberdeen is looking for an Equine Clinical Director to join their team to help grow the equine department. As well as having day to day clinical responsibilities caring for competition horses, children’s ponies, companion or retired horses and donkeys including but not limited to equine fertility, dentistry, diagnostics, OOH ECC care and farrier work as well as stud work and racecourse work for local clients. 

The management responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the current and new business equine accounts 
  • Being the strategic lead within the department 
  • Assess and identify greater efficiency of dairy management, vehicle management, visitor management
  • Identify niche areas for potential development
  • Liaise and work on client relations, client events, building client events

We have an active equine clinical board within IVC with the equine strategy being developed for the next 3 years. We have a hospital equine group set up to share ideas and knowledge across all levels of expertise. The clinic has hospitalisation facilities onsite so not just 1st opinion work and surgical caseloads, we also do A.I. work and our own OOH. We also have 2 equine group vet advisors who actively support and work alongside our equine practices.

Rota

  • Working 40 hours per week
  • Across 5 days per week
  • 1:7 weekend rota on call 

Salary

  • Up to £80,000 negotiable D.O.E.

About us

It is the only RCVS accredited Small Animal Veterinary Hospital in Aberdeen. Originally being largely an equine practice dealing with working horses, we have grown into a practice which is concerned with the well-being of farm animals, leisure and sports horses, small domestic animals, bird, and reptiles. 

The practice is located in its own grounds on the outskirts of Aberdeen. We have purpose-built facilities, including stabling, radiography/ treatment room, lunging areas and an operating theatre. We have up to date equipment, including a gastroscope, digital x-ray, ultrasound, surgical laser, endoscope, arthroscopy and lameness locator, advanced dental equipment, weigh scales and in house lab.  

We have 7 equine vets 1 equine nurse (although vets assist), receptionist and support staff for admin. 

Candidate requirements

Must be RCVS registered and have experience as an equine vet, as well as some experience within managing a team would be advantageous however we can consider an experienced equine vet looking for their first management role. Must have full UK driving licence as company vehicle provided.
