Job Details

Our client based in rural Lancashire are looking for  full or part time Small Animal Vets to work any number of flexible hours over the summer and ongoing. They have permanent positions which can support newly graduated vets upwards, but will look at any cover, consult only, part time or summer jobs for New graduates.

This first opinion mixed practice runs its 3 small animal surgeries at separate locations to its farm and equine department. The practice has 3 Clinical Directors across the group and employs around 80 staff in total.

You will enjoy the support of an experienced team of 13 dedicated small animal vets, 10 qualified nurses, 3 trainee nurses, 2 nursing assistants and 13 receptionists. The practice facilities allow for good case work up and include a state-of-the-art DR digital x-ray machine with cloud-based image storage, ECG, flexible endoscope, ultrasound scanner, tonometer, infusion pumps, and a well-equipped lab including an electrolyte analyser. The team offer 15 minute appointments.

The main site of the 3 SA surgeries has undergone extensive refurbishments and has a team of RVN’s working 24/7 which is extremely beneficial to the Vets who do on-call and greatly enhances in-patient care. The loyal clients really appreciate this in-house out of hours service, and the team understand how this can impact on Vets and as such ensure on call is kept to a minimum and Vets have the following 24 hours off after being on call. There is accommodation on site for Vets to use if preferred. For permanent roles the weekend OOH rota is approximately 1.5 in 8 with generous time off in-lieu given for being on call; if you are on-call Friday / work Saturday morning only / and on call Sunday then you have the Monday and Tuesday off in-lieu. If you are on-call on a Saturday then you will have a Friday off in-lieu. And then followed by 6 weekends off. But any cover will be welcomed and flexibility given

In addition, you would be on-call approximately one night every other week with the following day off. The rota is on a continuous 8-week cycle allowing you to plan your life ahead. The team have an OOH telephone answering service so the Vets will not be taking calls directly. Recent graduates will be given Veterinary back-up OOH. There is CCTV so you can remotely keep an eye on in-patients.

Full time Vets involved in the out of hour’s service do work a variation of 3, 4, and 5-day weeks throughout the 8-week rolling rota. If you are a full-time Vet doing on call you will only have two 5-day weeks in every 8 weeks. However, many of the Vets choose to have extra days off. The team are very open to suggestion and happy to discuss what hours may suit you.

This is a well-established practice giving great job security, a good work life balance and up to 40 days holiday a year, with a holiday buy back scheme too for those who love to travel.
You would enjoy excellent support and back up from the the well-established clinical and support teams, with weekly team meetings, so all staff can contribute to the success of the practice and ensure everyone is listened to.

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience. To give you an idea of the current pay scales; a one-year qualified Vet will earn £36,700 and a Vet with 6 years experience will earn around £51k.
In addition you will receive a generous CPD allowance of £1,750 per annum and certificates will be encouraged with a higher CPD budget given. The team can also offer a new graduate development programme and are an RCVS Accredited and a Nurse training centre.
They also have several apartments available, all within walking distance of the surgeries, for those looking to move to the area.

The location of these practices allows for an active life away from work and the area offers a wide variety of leisure activities. For walking and hiking enthusiasts being situated in the north east of Lancashire, nestling between the Ribble Valley and the Pennine Way, Pendle is a largely rural area dominated by the iconic Pendle Hill. The Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty, is on the doorstep and the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and Bronte Country are all within easy reach.
For people who enjoy the city life, the vibrant cities of Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds are within easy reach by road or public transport and offer excellent shopping and night life.
The practices also have great access to the motorway network, railways, and major airports.
