The Role
Priory Vets Cardigan are looking for a Large Animal Vet to join our friendly farm and equine team! You would be involved in caring for a range of farms, with a good mix of beef, dairy, and sheep, and we run a smallholder’s club to look after the increasing number of non-professional farmers in our area. You will have the chance to gain experience in looking after goats, alpacas, and pigs, and we have a wide range of equine clients if that is an area of interest too!
We are happy to accept both full/part-time applications, working shifts between 8:30 am-5:30 pm, which occasional earlier starts or finishes which would be agreed in advance with our clients. There is a 1:5 weekday and weekend on-call rota, with our vets getting the Friday off following a weekend on call!
The salary for this role is up to £60,000 FTE depending on experience + Relocation bonus of up to £5,000 + benefits.
About Us
Fancy a lifestyle change? Already fallen in love with West Wales? Start your day watching dolphins from one of our pristine beaches and finish with a sunset walk in the Preseli hills. Cardigan town and the surrounding areas are a thriving hub of independent shops and restaurants with all local schools rated as ‘Good’ by the Welsh Inspectorate.
Our modern farm and equine practice is conveniently based on the outskirts of Cardigan town centre. Our farm vets have the experience and time to mentor younger colleagues and include certificate holders in advanced veterinary practice in cattle, and mastitis control plan deliverers. We fully support any vet who wishes to undertake a certificate and currently have a vet completing a certificate in advanced veterinary practice in camelid medicine.
Our farm team is made up of 11 vets and 2 TB testers, supported by one trainee vet tech, one RVN vet tech and a 5-person farm admin team. We have a dedicated (part-time) equine specialist vet for advanced equine cases and one certificate holder in advanced cattle medicine. Priory Vets have been part of the local community for over 50 years. Our most recent fundraising activity raised over £4000 for those affected by the war in Ukraine.
