Severn Edge Craven Arms - New Graduate Programme - Small Animal Vet

Severn Edge Vets Craven Arms and Ludlow sites are looking for a new graduate vet to join us. This would be an additional vet to our teams as our work load increases but also allowing us to truly provide the support and ongoing training to yourself.

We adore living in this part of the world, with the access to some incredible walks and countryside, cycling, foodie hotspots, and easy rail and car links to Birmingham and Shrewsbury. But what really makes us is the teams at both sites. We are a caring bubbly team of individuals, who enjoy and champion each other's differences and skills. Clinically we have vets with certificates in medicine, diagnostic imaging and ophthalmology and others doing further training in behaviour and the general practitioner certificate within our group of 4 practices. Our vets strongly advocate for the health of our patients, trying to offer the best and most up to date care for them.

Our rota allows a good work-life balance, with a 5 day week of early (8:30am-4:40pm), late (9:30am-6:30pm) and mid (8:30am-6pm) shifts and with 1 in 4 Saturdays (8:30am-1230pm) and no OOH's cover required. Once you become more confident and skilled we would like to support you having experience of OOH alongside one of our more experienced MiNight vets. We will also put in place surgical and procedure case lists across our wider group of practices, supported by our experienced team. This ensures you get experience with a wide variety of emergency, routine and complex surgery, procedures and medical case management. So you will not only gain the benefits of the smaller teams, bonded clients and more time for 1-2-1 support and mentoring but the advantage of the busy case load of our greater practice group.

As well as enjoying our modern facilities, well equipped practice and a busy varied caseload, you will have access to a range of benefits and our tailor made New Graduate programme offering you the right support network in practice by ensuring you have an experienced clinical mentor working alongside you in your practice. In addition, you will attend a dedicated programme of Continued Professional Development (CPD) days. This programme supports the development of your clinical skills and non-clinical skills, including self-leadership, teamwork, wellbeing, resilience and business; whilst also providing the opportunity for you to share experiences with fellow graduates.

These are just some of the benefits of the programme:
  • 3 paid weeks for graduate camp – we run residential weeks in the North and South of the UK. We will endeavour to try to ensure your in-practice week will take place at a CVS practice that is closest to your geographic/home practice location. All travel, accommodation and subsistence costs associated with both weeks will be covered by CVS
  • Salary of £32,000 which increases at the end of year 1 and at the end of year 2
  • No financial tie-in beyond completion of the programme.
  • Professional memberships (RCVS & VDS).
  • Up to 7 weeks annual leave plus Bank Holidays (or equivalent) with our Buy/Sell holiday scheme - allowing you to purchase an additional two weeks of annual leave
  • Receive an extra day's leave each year in your first 5 years at CVS
  • 10 CPD days a year covering both clinical and non-clinical skills and tailored to your clinical role.
  • A committed and trained clinical buddy working alongside you in practice, with regular meetings to support your transition from student to qualified vet.
  • Workplace pension scheme.
  • Discounted pet treatments.
  • Employee Assistance Programme: 24/7 365 days a year helpline to support you and your immediate family when you need it the most.
  • Discounted UK gym membership with Gym Flex.
  • Performance bonus scheme.
  • Internal transfers – with a network of over 500 practices we can support you should you need to relocate
  • Recommend a Friend - Financial bonus up to £5000!
