Employer
Veterinary Specialists Aotearoa
Location
New Zealand (NZ)
Closing date

Our borders are finally opening “down under”, and with opportunities
for international travel starting to open up, it’s time for us to look further afield to grow our team again. Are you looking to start or continue your career in a hospital where you will be given the opportunity to grow your skills and experience in a direction that you help to determine? Where we strive first and foremost to remember why we got into this career, and to prioritise enjoying what we do for a profession? Where we support each other to learn and grow, and we think that the well-being of our staff is
as important as the high quality medical care we provide to our patients, and their owners?

If you like the sound of this, then read on…

We are a large, multi-site emergency and referral veterinary hospital which has seen huge growth in the past 2-5 years but remains privately owned by the same team for nearly 20 years. You’ll be providing services from either of our Auckland hospital; you will see a wide spectrum of clients, and you’ll have everything you will need to offer an excellent standard of veterinary care – a great workplace culture with like minded colleagues, lots of toys, and support/consultation from your senior veterinary, inter-specialist and management teams.

Why Join Our Team?

  • Your caseload will be varied and interesting with a diverse range of clients - no two days are the same.
  • You’ll have a personalised approach to training and your ongoing professional development, with a focus on individual mentorship with access to a great network of specialist skills as well as external CPD when the opportunity arises.
  • You’ll receive professional and personal support to become the best vet you can be, with proactive collegial communication and enrolment in the Lincoln Leading Edge and Emerging Leaders programmes. We prioritise staff feedback so that we can continually improve both the quality of our care for our patients and the experience of their worried owners.
  • You’ll enjoy work life balance with a regular, predictable roster with decent time off to enjoy our beautiful country. Our emergency team all work 10 hour shifts on a 4-on, 4-off basis and the roster is published up to a year in advance; the specialty teams work 4 days per week.
  • You’ll get all of these things, and you’ll be paid well for it. Our compensation package is negotiable depending on experience but will include NZ Vet Council registration costs, VIN and VECCS memberships, an on-house CPD allowance plus the opportunity for external CPD if the opportunity arises.

What About You?

  • You’ll need to have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent, and be registered (or able to be registered) as a veterinarian in NZ.
  • For specialty roles, you will need to have the appropriate specialist qualification.
  • You should enjoy working collaboratively with your hospital team, your clients, and your referring vets to provide excellent clinical care alongside a positive hospital experience for your owners.

If you are looking for the opportunity to step your career up to the next level in a clinic with a fun and supportive culture, we would love to hear from you.

We are actively recruiting for the following positions:

  1. Companion animal new graduate mentorship programme: a new graduate role, this role offers a crossover between the learning opportunities of an internship with a heavily supported introduction
to consulting and managing the sort of cases that keep you awake at night. Start date negotiable and is following graduation Sept/Oct 2022.
  2. Companion animal emergency veterinarian: This is a full-time role in our A&E team; experience is valued but we do prioritise selection of team members who will be a good fit for our hospital culture so applications are welcomed from all levels of experience. Start date negotiable/ASAP.

Specialists: We have had significant growth in the past 2 years, and we do have opportunities for several specialists – contact us to find out more about these roles.

NOTE: You must be able to work legally in New Zealand as a registered veterinarian to apply for this position. We are happy to assist with work visas for the right applicant and relocation assistance is absolutely available - just ask about the package we can offer!  MOVE YOUR VETERINARY CAREER TO NZ WITH VSA - Veterinary Specialists Aotearoa | Veterinary Specialist and Animal Referral Services in NZ with 3 specialist animal hospitals in Auckland and Christchurch (vsahospital.co.nz)

The interview process will begin with an informal “fact finding” internet meeting with one of our leadership group, so that you can find out about us, about living in NZ, and what lifestyle you would enjoy here. From there you can decide whether you would like to proceed with a formal application process, and we’ll have a proper Zoom interview with the HR department as well as the leader of the team you’d be joining,  to join our “whanau”.
