Registered Veterinary Nurse 4 day week (Surgical/Anaesthesia Nurse) - Alder 24 hour Hospital, Liverpool

We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic RVN who is passionate about anaesthesia and analgesia to join our surgical nursing team.

Our nurses will work in discipline specific teams. This is to ensure our nurses can develop high levels of clinical excellence in their dedicated area of interest.

The surgical nursing team will complete 1 week of imaging – this rotation will be monitoring patients having advanced imaging performed. 

The practice:

Alder 24 hour is an RCVS accredited hospital. We have recently undergone a full internal refurbishment and have excellent facilities/equipment such as digital x-ray, ultrasound, in house lab, endoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, multi-parameter monitors and CT. We perform a range of routine procedures and advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures. We have a dedicated OOH team taking transfers from the other Medivet branches in the region. Our night team ensures a Vet, RVN and PCA are on-site throughout the night, alongside a twilight PCA working till midnight.

As a 24 hour hospital, our case load can vary from routine boosters, challenging ECC cases to orthopaedic and imaging cases. We really do have something for everyone!

The role:

As a surgical/anaesthesia nurse you will be responsible for working closely alongside our surgeons. You will be monitoring anaesthesia in a wide range of interesting and challenging cases, alongside our routine procedures.

Our surgical nursing team will assist in developing and maintaining high perioperative protocols to ensure our patients receive the best care possible. Maintaining our surgical equipment and instruments to ensure efficient running of the theatres. Our surgical RVNs will oversee the patient care assistants/student nurses working within their area and provide guidance and coaching.

You will liaise with the Head Veterinary Nurses and the Veterinary Surgeons to ensure best and effective running of the practice. Maintain cleaning regimes within the hospital to ensure high standards are maintained throughout.

Ensure that patient records and documentation are maintained accurately. We value our nurses clinical professional development and you will have regular one-to-one reviews on our learning platform – Fuse.

Certificates/CPD are encouraged and supported - we want our nurses to flourish in their areas of interest.

The rota:

This is a full time role – 40 hours per week. Working a 4 day week, with a set day off for continuity and consistency- To create an improved work/life balance.

You will work 1 in 8 full weekends (Saturday and Sunday). This is worked into your weekly hours, meaning you work an average of 38 hours per week.

Average of 1-2 weeks of on call per year.

Average of 1-2 bank holidays per year, with equal time back.

The shifts:

Early – 7am – 5pm

Middle – 9am – 7pm

Late – 11.30am – 9.30pm

Full time salary for a 4 day week

The surgical nurse rota is a 3 week rolling rota, in those 3 weeks you will complete 1 week of early shifts, 1 weeks of middle shifts and 1 week of late shifts.
