The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Official Veterinarian to join us at Steffan Veterinary Services in Lampeter!

Your time will be split between Export Certification for a large abattoir and Milk processing factory and a busy equine exporter, and TB testing for small family farms with statutory testing and some pre-movement testing. There may be an opportunity in the future for the development
of clinical skills and progression, for the right candidate.

The shift pattern is 40 hours per week Monday – Friday, usually working 8:30 am – 5 pm although we can be flexible. No weekends or out of hours work.

The salary is up to £45,000 depending on experience.

About Us

Steffan Vets is a mixed, rural practice in Lampeter, West Wales.
The practice is based in a small, friendly community with plenty of opportunities outside of work. We have staff already regularly Guiding, Scouting, swimming in the sea, running, cycling (both road and mountain), rowing and more. Our team is made up of 10 vets, 6 registered veterinary nurses, 2 student veterinary nurses, 3 animal nursing assistants, 1 admin and 3 receptionists, as well as our practice manager. We are a close-knit and friendly team with lots of experience and our support staff are always on hand to help. The practice works with small animals, horses and livestock and has recently undergone a refurbishment of its small animal facilities with a new office in the planning.

Applicant Requirements

MRCVS is essential. OCQ(V)-TT, OCQ(V)-PX and OCQ(V)-UX would be preferable with experience of export certification. This role would suit someone looking to develop themselves and their skills.

Steffan Vets is a traditional mixed practice in West Wales, with 7 Veterinary Surgeons and 4 Registered Veterinary Nurses with support staff.  The Practice has digital x-ray, ultrasonography, laboratory and dental equipment within a recently refurbished premises.  It is involved with knowledge transfer and clinical research. 

The staff are stable and a replacement Veterinary Surgeon is required to replace a Vet who is retiring after 40 years.  The out of hours is provided by the practice and the rota is equally shared with back up at all times.  Each Vet and Veterinary Nurse in the practice is encouraged to develop their own interests and skills.
