Veterinary Surgeon

The Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Veterinary Surgeon at Avon Lodge Veterinary Centre!

We are looking for someone who has a strong base in both medicine and surgery, but any further areas of interest are encouraged and supported. Your average week would entail 2 surgical mornings with consulting in the afternoon and 2 days of consults, with space in the middle of the day for phone calls and admin.

We are based across two branches so some consulting would be at the Bishopsworth Branch Surgery.

We are happy to accept both full time and part time applicants, your shifts would be between 20-40 hours a week across 4 days (for full time) with one fixed day off a week. You will be required to work 1:4 Saturdays between 8:30am-5:30pm, and one “duty” night a week is assigned to each vet in case of any late admissions/emergencies. No out of hours work as we are covered by Vets Now.

Salary for this role is up to £40,000 depending on experience.

About Us

We are a small, friendly and supportive team and we pride ourselves on a high standard of patient care, a loyal client base and strong community ties.

The main surgery is located on the Wells Road, just a mile and half from Temple Meads and the city centre. This is where all our procedures and surgical work takes place.

We have facilities including a purpose-built theatre, digital x-ray machine, flexible and rigid endoscopy and ultrasound. As well as our separate dog and cat ward and Cat Friendly Silver Accreditation.

The Bishopsworth surgery at the foot of Dundry Hill is used for consults only.

About the Team and Culture

6 Vets, 5 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 5 Receptionists, 2 Animal Care Assistants and 1 Finance Administrator. We have one certificate holder in soft tissue surgery and one in feline medicine.

Applicant Requirements

A candidate who is comfortable with some sole charge (including one in four Saturdays), routine surgical and dental procedures and a good basis in medicine. Must hold a UK driving license as some travel is required between sites.
