The Role

We are looking for two Senior Veterinary Surgeons - one at our Park Surgery in Southampton and a second at our Ashurst branch in the New Forest.

As a Senior Veterinary Surgeon, you will support the Clinical Director in progressing the clinical standards of the practice. You will be supported by a progressive and close-knit team of Vets, RVNs and SVNs and a very experienced reception team. You will need to be comfortable with sole charge and therefore able to work-up medical and surgical cases to a high standard.

1:8 Saturdays (9am-4pm) and no out-of-hours. Shifts are either 4 days (8am - 6pm or 9am - 7pm), or split over 5 days with a mix of shorter early shifts (typically 8am - 1pm) and later ones (9.30am - 7pm). There will be some flexibility required during holiday season, when we may need to cover our colleagues. We aim to have an even mix of consulting and operating shifts to keep the week interesting. Senior vets are expected to address initial clinical complaints and support will be provided for this.

Salary range £44,000 - £49,000 dependent on experience.

About Us

We are a group of three practices, proud to be progressive and practice evidence-based medicine. Diverse client base. Usual mod cons, e.g. digital x-ray, new in-house lab machines, endoscopy, cardiac and abdo-minal ultrasound. Young, enthusiastic team with a focus on patient welfare and clinical standards. Whilst we are proud to deliver an excellent 'GP' service, we also encourage team members to develop their interests. We have a wide variety of skills within the group and due to a great team relationship, we enjoy case discussion.

Our practices are in a great location - easy access to the New Forest, the South Coast and of course London. The area is home to excellent schools and is a lovely place to set up home.

Currently 6 vets, with a good breadth of knowledge and experience. Two of these came through the IVC new graduate scheme and we are proud to support this. Large number of nurses, both registered and student and an experienced reception/office team.

We would love a candidate that enjoys teaching and sharing cases, but can also work alone and enjoy the challenges that come with this. We need a vet that can form good relationships with clients and isn't afraid to talk about costs - our clients appreciate open and up-front discussions about treatment options.

The group is always open to ideas for team days out and for supporting the community - we are hoping to get back to this now restrictions are lifted. The vets have regular meetings off-site - we will expect you to join in!

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for vets to take on the senior role, so experience is essential. Open, honest, easy-going vets who are up for a challenge - we can be very busy! Someone interested in teaching student nurses and new graduates, whether in a formal capacity or as a colleague is essential as we have a big learning culture here.
