The Role

We require a full-time or part-time Senior Vet Surgeon at Wright & Morten Small animal department to work primarily at our Macclesfield hospital, with some consulting at our two other branches. We are looking for a vet with at least 5 years of clinical experience who is looking to move forwards with their career. The role would suit someone who is looking to pursue a clinical or leadership interest, and we would be happy to fund a Certificate to help progression. Along with the Clinical Director and other Senior Vet, you would also be expected to provide support to other members of the team as needed.

The full-time hours are based on a 40 hour week working 4 days a week plus 2 in 5 Saturday mornings. There are no out of hours as we are a Vets Now host practice. We would also welcome applications looking for part time positions. Salary from £45,000 - £57,000 DOE.

A normal day starts after the morning handover from Vets Now and a ward round. You will be consulting or operating for the morning, as well as providing a guiding hand for some of the other vets in the team. We're big believers in taking appropriate breaks at work, not just at lunchtime but also a tea stop in the morning and afternoon. There is more consul-ting in the afternoon and occasional ops, plus the afternoon ward round and sometime allocated for the paper-based elements of the Senior Vet Role.

About Us

Wright & Morten's main hospital is in Macclesfield, in a location that is hard to beat in terms of easy access to both the hills and the city - we're on the edge of the Peak District but only a short train ride from the bright lights of Manchester.

We have all the facilities you would expect from a small animal hospital - digital x ray, fancy new ultrasound, endoscopy, full Idexx lab suite. We like our lap spays, enjoy emergency and critical care, and would never turn away a chicken or small furry.

Most excitingly, we have secured funding for a long-planned relocation of the hospital to new premises - more consult rooms, more theatres, more imaging rooms, better kennelling and overall a great step up for patient care.

We currently have 6 full time and 4 part time vets plus a team of established, exceptional and motivated RVNs who are highly experienced in caring for our patients and clients. We have a range of visiting Specialists and Advanced Practitioners in imaging, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, dermatology and cardiology. We like to be a part of the local community and are frequently called upon to judge a variety of local dog shows or provide cover at the sheepdog trials.

We may be biased, but we think we have the friendliest working environment we've come across.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with substantial clinical experience. An interest in Dentistry would be an advantage but is not essential, and we would encourage and support working towards a certificate. The role will involve working alongside our other Senior Vet to support the Clinical Director, so an interest in more of the business side would be useful, but more importantly enthusiasm for mentoring other team members is essential.
