Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital
Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital is currently seeking a veterinary graduate, with a degree that can be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland for the position of Intern in Small Animal Surgery. This position will suit someone who is enthusiastic to improve their knowledge and experience of small animal surgery. The successful candidate will work with another small animal surgery intern under the guidance of two full-time European Diplomates in Small Animal Surgery graduate.
Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital is a combined referral and first opinion small animal hospital based in Cork city. We accept referrals of soft tissue, orthopaedic and neurological surgical cases. We have visiting European specialists in Internal Medicine, Imaging and Cardiology. GVH has in-house CT, fluoroscopy, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, digital radiography, ultra-sound, an extensive laboratory service and visiting MRI. We also have a full-time night/weekend vet-nurse team to manage in-house patients.
Requirements:
Degree that can be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland
Focus and determination
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively as a team member
A minimum of 1-2 yrs post graduate experience in small animal practice or completion of a rotating internship. Exceptional new graduates may be considered.
The selected intern is expected to play a key role within the surgical team. This will involve daily management of in-patients, admitting new patients, diagnostic procedures, administering general anaesthesia, assisting in surgery and discharging surgical cases. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate with hospital staff, clients and referring veterinary surgeons through verbal and written communication. Maintaining hospital records with appropriate clinical information and pricing is important. Interns are expected to attend regular Journal club meetings.
Working hours: Rotating four day week 8.00am to 7.00pm except when managing intensive care cases or emergency surgery. A dedicated night time
