An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate Veterinary Surgeon to join our close-knit team here at Fivelands Veterinary Centre, Moseley!

Joining a busy SA practice consulting, caring for in-patients, and operating. You will have the support of working in a team of 8 vets with great back-up and the opportunity to discuss clinical cases.

The standard week is 4.5days between 9am- 6pm/7pm depending on your shift. There will be one or two days a week spent at a branch surgery working with an experienced team there. We are open on Saturdays, and you will take part in the shared rota currently working two out of six Saturdays (8.45am-5pm), hopefully this will reduce to two in eight Saturdays.

Salary for the role is up to £53,000 depending on experience.

We are a friendly practice that was fully refurbished 8 years ago. We have 8 VNs, 3 trainee VNs, and 4 ACAs. There is a separated dog & cat waiting area, separate dog & cat wards, 4 consulting rooms, prep room, x-ray, theatre, cat isolation and dog isolation. We are fully equipped: DR X-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound; Idexx Catalyst/Procyte/Snap Reader; endoscopy- 2.7mm rigid, 5mm rigid, 3.5mm flexible and 8mm videoendoscopes.

We pride ourselves on doing our best and providing an excellent service with the aim to be the best non-referral clinic. We also have the ability to perform cardiac scans and abdominal ultrasound in conjunction with a specialist, as well as other specialist help via video link.

We are a 5–10-minute drive from the centre of Birmingham so there are excellent rail, road and flight links to the rest of the country and beyond. The main surgery is situated in a lively suburb with lots of bars, restaurants and shops a few minutes’ walk away.

We are an 8-vet practice with 7 veterinary nurses, 3 trainee VNs and 3 ACAs. We have a Certificate holder in Feline Medicine, and a vet studying for her Certificate in Surgery, certifications will be supported as developmental opportunities. Ideally you will be an all-rounder with great communication, medicine and surgical skills, although we are happy to take on someone with less experience who is willing to learn and improve.

We are avid in charity work, working closely with a local Greyhound charity and perform a lot of charity neutering for Cats Protection

Some experience is essential. However, a willingness to work well as part of a team, to be able to cope under pressure, and a desire to learn both under supervision and from reading around the subject is equally important. Other requirements are having great communication skills and a true compassion for pets and the clients.
