Veterinary Surgeon required for Milan Veterinary Centre on Isle of Man

About Us

Milan Veterinary Practice is a well-established, mixed practice with 3 branches on the Isle of Man. Our main clinic is in Douglas, with branches in Castletown and Peel. We currently have 8 vets working here, and we have an excellent team of nurses and reception staff to help support us. As we are a mixed practice we have a range of skills, some of us are true mixed vets, others are 100% small animal. We have in house Idexx lab equipment, ultrasound and digital x-ray.

The Isle of Man is a unique place and has lots to offer whatever your interests. There is plenty to see and do, from mountain biking and coastal walks, to lots of restaurants and pubs, a food & drink festival, agricultural shows and of course, the famous TT races.

The maximum rate of taxation is 20%, much lower than in the UK, and the IOM Government is currently offering a National Insurance Holiday for the first year of employment here.

Immigration arrangements on the Isle of Man are also different to other parts of the UK, which allow you to move here more quickly and at less expense.

We spend a lot of time working together and we endeavour to support one another. We also meet up outside of work for dog walks, meals and nights out!’

Applicant Requirements

As we focus on treating all patients in-house, without referring, you must be capable of all routine surgery, as well as advanced abdominal surgery and other soft tissue surgeries. Skills in medicine cases and ultrasound scanning would also be favourable.

An interest in teaching/leading junior vets would also be highly advantageous. You must be confident with sole charge and out of hours work as we provide our own on call to our clients. A valid UK driving license and RCVS membership are essential.

Company

We are a well-established mixed practice and have a strong, large, animal database and massive potential to expand our services, based on the Isle of Man, an island 33 miles long by 13 miles wide in the middle of the Irish sea, between the UK and Ireland.

We have 3 clinics, our main branch is in the capital Douglas, with the other branches in the south and the west. We have not got a northern branch, but this is not a problem as nowhere is more than half an hour away!

We currently have 5 vets, consisting of 1 full time LA/EQ, 2 PT mixed vets and 2 FT SA vets. We have 8 versatile RVN’s, 4 FTE and 4 PT and we have an experienced support team of 16. We are a friendly, supportive bunch who are great at supplying everyone with lots of tea and coffee! We have a couple of keen bakers within our team that bring sweet treats in from time to time and we enjoy social nights out.

Whether you are single or coming with a family, the Isle of Man is a beautiful place to live, with lots of rural areas and a strong farming community. With easy access to beaches and open countryside, lovely restaurants and cafes, there is plenty to do. The Isle of Man is very multicultural with people having relocated here from all over the world. It is a welcoming place, and there is something for everyone, no matter what you enjoy. There are also good connections by air and sea to the UK and Ireland, if you want to explore further afield. We also have the lowest crime rate in the British Isles.

The Isle of Man is the only entire nation UNESCO Biosphere and has dark skies status. It is also home to the Manx Cat. There are lots of different sporting clubs and events, not least the island is probably most well known as the host of the famous Isle of Man TT Races. This motorcycle festival is held each year in early June and sees competitors racing on the islands 37.73-mile-long mountain course.
