Job Details

Veterinary Surgeon required at McMurtry & Harding, Ashbourne, Derbyshire

The Role

For our small animal vets the day is split between consultations and surgery time. We strongly believe that client care is foremost and for this reason we offer 15 minute appointments affording our vets the time to connect with our clients. Orthopaedic and laparoscopy surgery is com-mon within the practice and anyone wanting to specialise in specific disciplines would be fully supported.

About Us

Our practice is a large purpose built facility located on the edge of the historical town of Ashbourne, the gateway to the Peak District. We have
3 consult rooms, 2 fully equipped operating theatres, a digital x-ray room and separate dog, cat & isolation wards. Our in-house laboratory is fully kitted with modern Ideex equipment enabling us to do our own bioche-mistry, haematology and endocrinology testing.

We are proud to offer our own out of hours service which enables us to provide the best possible animal care and continuity of service.

We have ample parking and being in a rural area you'll never get caught up in the rush hour traffic. Having the Peak District on our doorstep means you can spend your evenings unwinding in the beautiful country-side or running, cycling and training for triathlons as some of our more energetic staff seem to do.

McMurtry & Harding, Ashbourne is 1 of 4 practices forming the Derbyshire Veterinary Services Group. We have a fantastic team of 20 Vets (Small Animal, Farm & Mixed) with a variety of experience including 3 certificate holders. They are supported by 20 RVNs, 2 SVNs, 2 VCAs plus a small army of Receptionists and Administrators.

It is important that our staff are able reach their full potential so we encourage regular CPD and there are plenty of opportunities to gain new experience or practice your existing skills. There is also the option to undertake training to become a mentor or coach to a Graduate Veterinary Surgeon.

We are the nominated practice for a local animal welfare society and we also undertake work for various other charities.

Company

Ashbourne is a modern, high quality, first opinion practice, with purpose-built facilities, shared with our farm animal team. We are a busy central hub for the practice, offering hospitalisation. Our clients are an engaged and proactive group and uptake on our recommendations for investigations and workups are well received.

We have four consulting rooms and a large light reception with separate cat and dog waiting areas. The prep area is massive, with lots of natural light and leads to two theatres and an x-ray/ultrasound room; rigid and flexible endoscopy /laparoscopic facilities are also available. A well kitted out lab complements the other diagnostic facilities.

Our central location gives access to the beauty of the Peak District National Park, but within 2 hours you have many large cities so meeting up with friends and family is easy, but let's face it if you are living in the Peak District, they'll want to visit you!
