Role: Full or Part Time Veterinary Surgeon (Small Animal)

Location: Wincanton, South Somerset/Dorset/Wiltshire border

Hours: Permanent, Full time, 4 days per week, 1:6 weekends, OOHs 1 night per week

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience £30 -35k per annum

They are looking to recruit a Veterinary surgeon with immediate effect, suitable either for an experienced part time vet or a competent recent graduate for a full-time position.

The Role:

As a Veterinary Surgeon, you will need to be able and be comfortable with a mixture of consultations and surgical procedures of general practice. Confident and competent in the role, training will be given and mentoring is encouraged.

The requirements for this role can be flexible, full time or part time applicants will be considered. Although experience is preferred, recent graduates with the right ‘can-do’ attitude who will fit in with our fabulous team are encouraged to apply.

The current vet and nurse team are very supportive, and there is always someone around for advice if needed.

This role is being offered on a permanent basis, full time vets work 4 days a week, 8.30am – 6pm. Part time hours are negotiable. No late surgeries, and Saturday consults finish at midday. The practice feels it is important to get the work/life balance right. Consult slots do not run for more than 2 hours at a time, with regular breaks in the day for tea and chat. Out of Hours caseload is not too onerous and in general provides plenty of time at home on evenings and weekends.

Development and progression are important to the practice as they grow and evolve, but finding the right person is key. The practice is looking for someone to work with their existing clients, and deliver their high excellent standard of patient care. The team currently have strong work ethics to ensure quality and effective work is carried out to gain the best overall satisfied results for the patient and the client.

Must haves:

  • RCVS registered and qualified
  • Possess the right to work in the UK
  • Compassion and empathy
  • Effective decision-making ability
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills
  • The ability to problem solve
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must live within a 30 minute response time of Wincanton, or have access to overnight accommodation.

About the practice:

The practice is 100% small animal, and proud to provide OOH services to all their own clients. All hospitalised cases are centralised at the main branch in Wincanton.

The main branch in Wincanton has been recently refurbished, and they are working towards achieving Cat Friendly status.  Gillingham is a purpose built branch, and is rapidly growing in caseload as the town grows. They also have two small branches in Milborne Port and Mere offering consultation services to more rural communities.

The practice is fully committed to providing the best care possible for their clients and this has seen them make significant investments in the practice in recent years, with plans to continue to grow in the future.

The team consists currently of 4 full time vets, 3 part time vets, 6 RVNs, 4 ANAs and kennel assistants and a wonderful, wise reception team - they offer lots of experience to learn from and ask for advice.
