Dalehead Veterinary Group is an independent, Tier 2, first opinion practice based in the market town of Settle in the Yorkshire Dales. We
are a mixed farm/companion animal practice in the heart of the local community providing veterinary services to our bonded client base.

We are looking for an experienced colleague to join our friendly team
of 10 vets and 6 nurses in a dedicated companion animal role.

The Role

This is a dedicated companion animal role best suited to someone with experience. We offer plenty of scope to work up your own cases with clinical freedom in an independent and supportive environment. We encourage the whole team to develop their skills both on-site and through funded CPD with certificates supported.

You would work within a team of 4 vets (equivalent 3 full time vets) and 5 nurses within the companion animal department. All out of hours work is shared equally between the vets (1 weeknight on call and 1 weekend in 4 with a day off the following week). You will also have a dedicated nurse on call with you at all times out of hours.

We are proud to provide our own out of hours’ service which bonds us strongly to the community. Our  out of hours telephones are taken by members of the reception and nursing team and clients always know that they will speak to and see people who are familiar with their animal and it’s needs.

By providing a quality level of service with passion and integrity we are fortunate to have a bonded client base with a high level of insured pets and owners who care passionately about their pet’s welfare. This is a rewarding environment in which to work as you become part of the community and are enabled to provide the highest levels of care to animals.

We offer:

  • 15 minute consultation slots with double appointments for some appointment types
  • 5.30pm daily finish, 6.30pm finish on late evening surgeries, Saturday morning clinic 9am – 12noon
  • Equally shared relatively quiet OOH rota for our own bonded clients
  • Day off the following week after weekend worked
  • CPD encouraged and funded, certificates supported
  • Funded RCVS, VDS, BVA, BSAVA memberships
  • Practice wide engagement to ensure wellbeing and mental health support
  • Contractual sickness/ injury scheme
  • Pension scheme
  • Staff discount scheme

As an independent practice we have the resources and autonomy to provide a bespoke position tailored to the right candidate. Salary is commensurate with experience and to be discussed at interview.

About us

Our aim is to provide gold standard service to all our patients. We receive excellent feedback in our RCVS Accredition inspections for both the level of work, standards and equipment employed at the practice, we aim to achieve further awards in several targeted areas in the near future.

We appreciate that clinical continuity is vital, with our vets being encouraged to build up their own client base and work up their own cases. We allow clinical freedom, working within a framework of in-house protocols which are written by OUR vets.

We offer great work/life balance with no late surgery finishes allowing you to enjoy the glorious countryside, pubs and restaurants and diverse range of sports and activities.

We are a real team with friendly support across the departments and a great working environment.

The Area

Settle is a vibrant market town in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activites; walking, climbing, cycling, horse riding, yet it is within a few minutes of everyday amenities and fantastic pubs. Local schools and nurseries are excellent and there are lots of local events and community groups to get involved in. We are on the doorstep of the Lake District for days and weekends away and there are great transport links to Leeds, Manchester etc.

The Successful Candidate

We are looking to welcome someone to the practice with the aim of becoming a long-term member of team, someone who brings their own professionalism, style and character to the role, who has that spark of innovation to maximise both their own potential and that of the practice, and play an integral part in the development and future of the department.

If you think that this might be the role for you, please send your CV and covering letter FAO our Practice Manager Emma via the apply button.
