Job Details

A well-established, independent, accredited first opinion hospital in Darlington is seeking a full-time Small Animal Vet to join their team. 4-day week, 1 in 6 weekends!

The role is for a full-time Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon working 4 days per week. You will be working with an experienced and friendly 6 (soon to be 7) vet team along with 10 RVN's and strong support staff in a practice that carries out all types of major surgery including lap-surgery at its main site in Darlington.

The veterinary team consists of vets with 10, 15, and 20+ years experience with a variety of interests ranging from surgery and internal medicine to exotics with one vet having recently completed an exotics certificate.

More complex surgeries can be carried out at this practice due to intensive nursing facilities allowing animals to be treated and cared for until they reach full recovery.

The practice boasts excellent equipment and facilities including digital x-ray, flexible endoscope, gastroscope and bronchoscope, new ultrasound machine, ECG. The consultation rooms are all well lit and fully air conditioned, and there is an on-site laboratory for carrying out in-house blood tests providing rapid 15 minute results.

Key Duties

  • You will be performing surgery at least 3 days a week within this role and can expect 10-12 consultations on a heavy consult day. Typical consultation times are 20 minutes during covid (15 minutes normally).
  • As the hospital runs its own 24/7 emergency care, you will be required to work OOH 1 night per week, and 1 weekend in 6. Once you have completed a weekend, you would then have the following Friday off to give a 3-day weekend.

Package and Benefits

  • Alongside your manageable workload, you will be able to enjoy a competitive salary up to £55,000 per year depending on experience. The practice is very much pro CPD with a £1,500 and 5-day allowance as standard, and certificates are also encouraged.
  • Other benefits include a health plan, free treatment for pets, and you can bring your dogs to work.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Client Requirements

Minimum 1 years UK experience, although with the practice having a nice blend of experience and youth, they are open minded.
